CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

This chapter provides conclusions and suggestions from result


of the research. This conclusion is summary of the analysis of reading
difficulties and strategies based on gender. The suggestion given to
expected to give both theoritical and practical contribution for a better
analysis of reading difficulties and strategies based on gender for the
english teacher and further research dealing with students’ different
difficulties and how they overcame it.

5.1 CONCLUSION

After analyzing the result of the students' difficulties and the


strategies they used to overcome difficulties in comprehending
English reading text at eighth grade students of SMPN 08 Mulya
Kencana in Academic Year 2022/2023, the researcher draws the
conclusion as follows.
1) The difficulties in reading comprehension include inferring
information that was only in a text, making inferences to connect up
the ideas in a text, and inferring the meanings of particular words from
context. It can be concluded that both males and females students
encountered same difiiculty which was in inferring the meanings of
particular words from context. And both males and females students
had same difficulty however they also had same difficulty in the term
subcategories. The data shown that the students including both males
and females mentioned most that the difficulties they encountered was
in translating the whole reading text in particular words to interpret
the meaning of the context.
2) There were three strategies to overcome students’

difficulties in reading comprehension.; global reading strategies,


problem solving strategies, and support reading strategies. It can be
concluded that while the female students using same strategies with
males students which was the global reading strategies one, they had
differents subcategories. Males students prefers to check to see if they
guesses about the text are right or wrong rather than female students.
Meanwhile female students prefer to to check their understanding
when they come accros their new information.

5.2 SUGGESTION

Based on the conclusion above, the researcher would like to give the
following suggestions:
1) Based on the weaknessess of this research, the suggested
for the teacher should identify difficulties related to reading
comprehension before learning or before the students read the text. It
will make the students easy to understand the text to help them solve
the students problems in comprehending the text. In short, the teachers
should be more creative in applying the techniques of teaching
reading skill.
2) Based on the weaknessess of this research, the students get
bored when reading it is suggested to increase and deep their
knowledge by reading various texts. When they face difficulties on
reading the various kind of texts, they have to practice using the
strategies they had gotten.
3) Based on the weaknessess of this research, it is suggested
for the next researchers will continue this study by conducting the
further investigation and exploring deeper about the relationship
between the students background knowledge of the content of the text
and their ability in understanding and solving their problem in
reading.
