LOCAL CASE: A headline claiming that former President Benigno Aquino III
was disappointed over a proposal to change the name of the Ninoy Aquino
International Airport (NAIA) into Manila International Airport was only fake
news.

WHO STARTED THE FAKE NEWS: This fake news article originated from the
website www.dutertefilipino.info and was propagated by the Facebook page
“Duterte Worldwide Supporters”.

HOW DID THEY DISCOVERED IT AS A FAKE NEWS/PROPAGANDA: The claim


that the renaming of the NAIA to MIA has been confirmed is false. Only the
Philippine Congress, composed of the Senate and House of Representatives, can
enact a law to change its name. If you listen carefully to the video embedded on
the website, it contains no reaction from Aquino.

WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE FAKE NEWS WAS IT SHARED MANY TIMES:
The post has been widely shared by Facebook groups that support Duterte and
his political allies. The video has about 455,900 views, 37,000 reactions, 6,400
comments, and 6,400 shares on Facebook.

DID PEOPLE BELIEVED IT: Consequently, hundreds of Filipino netizens bashed


the former president because of his supposed reaction.
