Gingerbread was traced back to the ancient Greeks
and Egyptians who used it for ceremonial purposes.

It traveled to Europe in the 11th century when

crusaders traveled from the Middle East with spices
that were used for cooking and baking. It was then
that gingerbread became popular.

Is gingerbread associate to Christmas?

According to Epicure & Culture, gingerbread was sacred, and

the only time it was allowed to be made by the general
public was during Christmas and Easter. So, that's probably
why it's seen as a Christmas delicacy.
