Career opportunities in electronics continue to expand and become more varied with each passing year. It seems
as if the career opportunities in electronics in electronics are almost limitless. The purpose of this section is to
provide you, the newcomer to electronics, with some insight into the many possible career opportunities available
to you.
2. COMPUTER REPAIR TECHNICIAN - With the use and applications of computers continuing to grow, the
need for computer repair technicians is at all-time high. To be a technician in this branch of electronics, you
must have a thorough understanding of both the hardware and the software aspect of computer operation the
hardware and the software aspects of computer operation. The electronic, magnetic, and mechanical devices
of a computer are referred to as the hardware, whereas the programs, which tell the computer what to do, are
called the software.
3. INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN – An in industrial electronics technicians a person who
maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of industrial equipment, such as motors and motors control,
programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robots, and computer-controlled machine tools and fluid power
systems. The industrial electronics technician may be also be involved in the development and installation of
equipment.
6. CABLE TELEVISION TECHNICIAN – A cable television technician is a person who is trained to install,
test, maintain, troubleshoot and repair cable television systems. In this branch of electronics an in-depth
knowledge of electronic circuitry is helpful but not a necessity. This type of work is more likely to entail
installing connectors on coaxial cable, testing coaxial lines for faults, and connecting and disconnecting
customers to the cable system.
7. OFFICE EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN – An office equipment technician is a person who maintains and
repairs office equipment such as xerographic copiers, facsimile (FAX) machines, laser printers. In this type of
work, customer relation skills are extremely important, since the technician almost always travels to the
customer’s location.
