Non Renewable Resources Depletion

Everyday,we consume electricity, use gadgets, ride on jeepneys or taxis or on our

own/family-owned vehicles to travel long distances or to come to school. We could also see
many factories operating to make various products. But if I would ask you,do you know what
POWERS electricity, transportation vehicles, and factories?Well then, let me tell you, FUN FACT!
63% of our electricity comes from fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are formed within the Earth from
dead plants and animals over millions of years resulting to the production of coal for electricity,
natural gas and crude oil for the operation of factories and power vehicles. These fossil fuels are
Non-Renewable Resources which means,it cannot be easily replaced orrenewed. As such, Non-
Renewable Resources are FINiTE or LIMITED Resources. And with the fact that these limited
resources are consumed more quickly than nature can replenish them, this could cause CHAOS!
As the population all over the world goes to drastic heights, demand for supplies are at the peak
while our supplies keeps getting drained over the years. To think that these resources takes
eons or hundreds of millions of years,we cannot replace them,like-ever. It would take millions
of lifetimes. We only have got One Shot at extracting limited resources. So then, the challenge at
this time is to minimize the overuse of Non-Renewable Resources,Are you up for the challenge?

Before we proceed with the challenge, let us first define Non Renewable
Resources and the fossil fuels crucial for our daily lives. The term Non- renewable resources
refers to a natural substance that is used up more quickly than it can replace itself.Examples of
Non-Renewable Resources include fossil fuels like crude oil, natural gas and coal.Fossil fuels are
the primary source of ALL the power generated in the world due to their affordability and high
content.Fossil fuels are processed into products used commercially. For instance, crude oil
which is a liquid fuel used to produce gasoline and diesel fuel for vehicles and for the
manufacturing of plastic.Natural gas is widely used for the production of electricity coming up
to 40% for the generation of power. It is the ever so common LPG we have at our homes, used
for cooking and heating homes. Coal is used for generating electricity for about 37%.FUN FACT!
The society in which we belong, heavily depend on non renewable resources especially for
energy. It is estimated that about 80% of all the world's energy is consumed from fossil fuels.
This causes a HUGE strain on the availability of our Non Renewable Resources, affecting the
environment with a MAJOR impact.

The depletion of Non Renewable Resources has a great impact on our

environment.Let me ask you a question, "Are you aware of the environmental impact of the
depletion of Non Renewable energies?YES?NO? MAYBE? We'll have you observed the change in
temperature nowadays, comparing to the one before, it's much warmer now.According to
experts, our global temperature has been increasing by more than 2 degrees Celsius which lead
to global warming. This could be prevented if 60% of oil as well as 90% of coal are available and
remain unused underground.Burning fossil fuels release carbon dioxide contributing to two-
thirds of worldwide Carbon Dioxide Emissions. As experts have shown, an increase in the
concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere leads to significant increase in Earth's
temperature. Moreover, according to a study by Greenpeace and Center for Research and
Energy and Clean Air, air pollution from burning fossil fuels cause 4.5 Million deaths worldwide
each year. These non renewable resources exist in limited quantities and takes an extremely
long time to regenerate. A study published in the Science Journal 'Nature', Oil, Coal, and Natural
gas will be depleted by 2043. The date we will no longer have these fossil fuels are fast
approaching
Now then, we have traced the problem and now it's time for us to look for ways to minimize
the overuse of our ever-so-precious resources.
Ask yourself, what can I do?
Why don't you try UR-DRAMA

U- USE MORE RENEWABLE ENERGY

Resources like wind and sunlight, however, can also be used to generate electricity, but these
resources are renewable. That means once they are used, they become available again quickly.
So it is recommended for you to use solar panels when charging,it doesn't just save money but
it also helps reduce the overuse of fossil fuels.

R - RECYCLE and Re-use to prevent overproduction and the waste of fossil fuels used for
producing various commercial products.

D-RIVE LESS
Gasoline is a product made from crude oil, a finite natural resource and fossil fuel.
Walking, bicycling taking public transportation and carpooling are all excellent alternatives to
driving.

R -REDUCE FOOD WASTE

Approximately a third of the food produced for human consumption every year gets wasted or
lost. Because of all the resources required to grow, transport and prepare the food, this is a
huge waste. As much as possible then, finish your food and if you have leftover food, feed it to
the dogs. Just think of those families who can't afford food while you can, don't waste it. A
scrap for you may be a gold for others .

A-. AVOID SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

Reducing our plastic use helps us avoid the use of the resources needed to make plastic and
prevents plastic waste from harming the natural environment. Substituting single-use plastics
like plastic grocery bags, utensils and straws with durable items can help.

M - MAKE ELECTRICITY USE MORE EFFICIENT

We can conserve some of that electricity simply by turning things off and unplugging them
when we’re not using them and by using more energy-efficient appliances and light bulbs.
A- ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, we can definitely help nature regenerate/restore itself
by doing simple things ,turn off the water, turn off the unused light bulb, Assured that you are
doing mother Earth a favor and it will surely come back to you.

Non Renewable Resources are limited and include the fossil fuels; Coal,Natural
Gas, and Crude oil. Coal and Natural Gas for electricity and crude oil for vehicles. The negative
effects of the depletion of Non Renewable Resources lead to global warming from the carbon
emissions which is scattered in the air contributing to air pollution that causes millions of
deaths. A study shows that by the year 2043 fossil fuels would be depleted and this is fast
approaching,encouraging you to practice UR-DRAMA
Use more renewable energy
Recycle and Re-use
Drive less
Reduce Food Waste
Avoid single-use plastic
Make electricity more efficient
Always look on the bright side my Eco-friendly friend.
Time is ticking, we are running out of time now...
What should you do?
