MALCOM X BEGINNINGS

• Malcolm Little; Omaha, Nebraska, 1925 - New


York, 1965) Revolutionary leader of the North
American black minority. He was the son of a
Protestant pastor and a mulatto woman, born
from the rape of a black woman by a white
man; During his childhood, he suffered from
the continuous transfer of residence of his
family, fleeing from the attacks of racist
groups, which culminated in the murder of his
father in 1931.
MALCOM’S PATH
• Malcom X was an influential African American
leader of the sixties. Initially, he was a member of
the Nation of Islam, which advocated the
separation of white and black Americans. He later
converted to Sunni Islam and founded the
Organization of African American Unity. Malcolm X
advocated Pan-Africanism and black self-
determination. Unlike the mainstream civil rights
movement, he rejected the philosophy of
nonviolence and defended the judicial use of self-
defense. He was assassinated on February 21,
1965. He articulated the concepts of racial pride
and black nationalism in the fifties and sixties.
MALCOM’S LEGACY
• Immediately after the death of Malcolm X.
Commentators largely ignored his recent spiritual and
political transformation and criticized him as a violent
agitator. But especially after the publication of his
autobiography, Malcolm X will be remembered for his
contribution to society. To underline the value of a truly
free population in demonstrating the great efforts that
human beings will make to secure their freedom. "Power
in defense of freedom is greater than power in the name
of tyranny and oppression," he said. "Because power,
