Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism Disability Inclusion & Involvement Mini-Grants

Mini-Grant Information GCSVs mission is to grow partnerships across the state using the resources and civic engagement of national service programming and volunteerism to solve community problems and improve lives. Inclusion is a key part of our mission and our vision. Disability Inclusion and Involvement Mini-Grants will provide funding opportunities for disability advocacy organizations to partner with National Service Programs to develop and implement small projects that engage people with disabilities in Georgias communities. The projects must focus on the participation of persons with disabilities in service or service to persons with disabilities. Examples of acceptable projects: Repainting a senior center, building a ramp, creating a community garden, clothes drive for homeless veterans, organizing an inclusive sports event, organizing a job fair for people with disabilities Whos eligible? Nonprofit organizations with a focus on disability advocacy What National Service Programs must I partner with? AmeriCorps State* Programs, AmeriCorps National Programs operating in Georgia, or Georgia SeniorCorps Programs Do I have to perform this activity by 12/31/2011? Yes! Can we collaborate with more than one National Service Program? Yes! Is a match required? No, but a match is highly encouraged. A match can be in-kind (acquiring a facility, transportation, et cetera), cash, or both. How much money can we request? Any amount up to $10,000. We have $10,000 available and hope to fund between 3-8 projects.

GCSV will award applicants based on the following criteria: the number of expected individuals engaged to volunteer in the project, the anticipated impact on those engaged and the benefit to the community. The GCSV may choose to award a partial amount if funding requests are deemed excessive or unnecessary, or based on the availability of funding. Funds may be used for project materials, transportation, facility reservation costs, and other costs considered pertinent to the success of the project. GCSV requires that upon completion of the project, the grantee must compile a short project report to document the success in relation to the proposals made on the application (i.e. number of individuals with disabilities engaged and a description of the days activities). Prohibited activities include: political activities, proselytizing, and other activities listed by the Corporation of National and Community Service (CNCS). The GCSV reserves the right to withhold funding if any of the activities are considered unacceptable. Activities must also fall under the CNCS policy regarding the use of disability grant funds.
