NOx has been identified as particularly harmful, as it causes ‘acid rain’, is toxic, and can contribute to atmospheric smog under certain conditions. The oxides of nitrogen are believed to cause emphysema and contribute substantially to acid rain and smog formation. NOx also increases the local ozone concentration, which has a detrimental effect on vegetation. Small quantities of laughing gas (N20) can also present among other oxides of nitrogen N2O destroys ozone in the stratosphere where itis needed for UV light filtration. Measuring the plunger lift and statlc timing verification “Light method” 1) Tum the engine in its normal direction til the concerning cylinder is approx. 25° CA before ignition-TOC, 2) Unlock the buffle screws and remove them. Clean the pressure area of the pump carefully from fuel by blowing out with pressurized air, 3) Place a iamp and a mirror in front of the holes as shown in the drawing, see “On-board vertfication procedure 1! 4) Approach according to “Adjusting instruction of the pump piston stroke with erank angle”, see “On-board verification procedure 1!) 5) Fit the buffie screws with two new gaskets and lock.
