The Perfect French 500 Most Common French Verbs
The Perfect French 500 Most Common French Verbs
- Third group :
The third group of verbs is the most irregular and basically includes all the verbs that don't fit in the first
and second group.
- Second group :
The ending of the first group of verbs is IR, this part called will be conjugate when the stem (le radical)
stays the same.
Example : Finir (to finish)
"Fin" is the stem, and won't change
- Third group :
This group doesn't follow any rules unfortunately. There are a lot of different types of verbs in this group
and we will see them gradually in this book.
3. Reminder
Je I
Tu You
Il He
Elle She
Nous We
Vous You
Ils They
Elles They

UNDERSTAND FRENCH TENSES
Here you will find the equivalent of the tenses we will see in English.
Important note : I purposely did not include some of the tenses listed at the end of this page. I found them more
confusing than anything as we almost never use them. I always tell my students than it would be good to look at them
when they reach an advanced level. Before that, studying even more complicated conjugation is not very useful in my
opinion.
3
CONJUGATION OF ER VERBS
We know that the infinitive ends in ER. If we take "Penser" (to think), the stem is "Pens" which won't change.
Then we can add the different endings that you will find below.
o Then the last step is to connect the stem and the ending.
o Some types of ER verbs have slightly different endings, as CER, YER, GER, etc. You can see them more
in details in this book.
4
CONJUGATION OF IR VERBS
We know that the infinitive ends in IR. If we take "Agir" (to act), the stem is "Ag" which won't change.
Then we can add the different endings that you will find below.
o Then the last step is to connect the stem and the ending.
o The third group is so particular that it can't resume in a page. All the different types of verbs as well as the
different endings are all in this book. Basically, all the verbs that don't end in ER or IR are third group.
