This unique University was envisioned by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi as the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, in 2008 to be an institution of higher learning of international standards and to meet the huge shortfall of experts in different fields of Forensic Science across the world. It came into being on 11th February, 2009 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat with the appointment of DrJ.M.Vyas as its first Director General. On 1st October 2020, the Government of India elevated the university into a National University and established NFSU through National Forensic Sciences University Act. Simultaneously, NFSU has also been accorded the status of an Institution of National Importance {INI). On upgradation, the erstwhile GFSU has become the Gujarat Campus of NFSU, and the Lok Nayak Jayprakash Narayan -National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences (LNIN-NICFS) at Rohini, New Delhi as another campus. NFSU is progressing under the dynamic leadership of its founder Vice Chancellor, Padma Shri Dr. J.M.Vyas, globally renowned and senior-most Forensic Scientist of india with a rich experience of five decades in this field. The highest body of the University is the Board of Governors with the Vice Chancellor as its Chairman. Inauguration of NFSU, Tripura (transit) Campus as well as the Bhoomi Pujan and Shilanyas of the main Srinagar ‘Campus was done by the Hon'ble Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Government of India Shri Amit Shah on 8th March, 2022. The Transit campus is the erstwhile old campus of B. Ed. College, Near Buddha Mandir, VIP Road, Agartala, Tripura. The permanent campus will be established at Srinagar area of Tripura on a sprawling 49,21-acre land generously allocated by the Government of Tripura. Unique programs like Drone Forensics, DNA Fingerprinting, Wildlife Forensics, Fraud Investigation, Cyber crime and Digital Forensics, Narcotic Drugs analysis, Criminology, Forensic Food Investigation, Homeland Security and others related to Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs are to be introduced at the NFSU-Tripura campus. In the next 4-5 years more than 30-40 Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses related to Forensic Science and allied branches including Ph.0. courses will be conducted at Tripura campus. NFSU Tripura Campus will also provide training to the Police Officers, Judges, Security Officials, Banker's, CA and Government Officials from Tripura and neighboring states as well as countries. Centre of Excellence in Narcotic Drugs Analysis, Wildlife Crimes, Cyber Security, Forensic Food Analysis, Nanotechnology, Forensic Anthropology, Toxicological Research Centres will be established at Tripura campus in near future. Padma Shri DrJ.M.Was is the Founder and First Vice Chancellor of unique and highly specialized, "National Forensic Sciences University’, (erstwhile GFSU) Gandhinagar (An Institution of National Importance) established by the Government of India. He served as a Director General of Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) from February-2009 to September — 2020. He is the senior most forensic scientist of the country and possess a vast, experience of 47 years of working in Forensic field out of which, 27 years as Director of Forensic Science Lab. He served as a member of "Task Force" for Railway safety audits by the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, He also served asa consultant to C.8.|,, New Delhi for the establishment of "International Centre of Excellence in Forensic Science" (ICEFS), Ghaziabad. He was appointed and has remained as the Organizing Committee member for INTERPOL for three consecutive terms. He is appointed as a member of "Governing Council of Association of Indian Universities (AIU)", New Delhi, member of Governing Council of international Institute of Digital Technology (IDT), Tirupati headed by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, member of "Governing Council of Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA)", New Delhi headed by Hon'ble Vice President of India. He was also invited by "Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science & Technology, Environment, Forests & Climate Change", Rajya Sabha Secretariat, Parliament of India for giving his view on various provisions of the DNA Technology Regulation Bill, 2019. He has many International and National awards to his credit such as "Distinguished International Forensic Scientist Award!" in recognition of leadership and excellence in forensic science and education in the International Community by The Henry C, Lee Institute of Forensic science, University of New Heven, West Heven, USA, in October — 2018, "Lifetime Achievement Award" for outstanding contribution in the field of Forensic and Investigative Sciences at International Level by International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), Turkey on Lith February, 2019, "Humanitarian Forensic Award" in recognition of exceptional services in the field of Humanitarian Forensics by International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics (ICHF) on Sth September, 2019, "President's Police Medal" for meritorious services on the eve of Republic Day, in the year 1997, "Best Forensic Science Laboratory Director of the country" in 2004, "Life time Achievement Award” in the area of Forensic Chemistry by Amity University— Uttar Pradesh & All India Institute of Medical Sciences— New Delhi, in October 2008, "Bharat Mata Award" by Indian Institute of Oriental Heritage in 2014 to name a few. Dr. H.K.Pratihari , Campus Director, Tripura Campus Dr. H. K.Pratihari completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Utkal University, He started his career as a forensic scientist in the State F..L., Odisha. He joined as founder Director of State FSL, Imphal, Manipur in the year 1992. Dr. Pratihari was selected to undergo overseas training under United Nations International Drug Control Programme (UNDCP). He is the recipient of the Home Ministry Award, MHA, Govt. of India in 1997 for his. valuable contribution in the field of Forensic chemical science. Dr. Pratihari got the lifetime contribution award in 2012 by the Indian Academy of Forensic Sciences and Health Ultimate Research Organization. He joined as founder director in state FSL, Agartala in 2001 to organize and establish a model laboratory in the state and is. continuing the same. He is on the one of the senior mast forensic scientist in India, He has the credit of publishing 2 large number of research papers in reputed journals. He has also published a book on Forensic Evidence & Investigation Methods in the year 2022. Dr. Prasenjit Maity, Dean (Academics), Tripura Campus Dr. Maity, an associate professor of nanotechnology is currently holding the position of Dean (Academics) ‘Tripura Campus as well as Dean of School of Engineering and technology at Gandhinagar Campus. He did his PhD ‘asa CSIR fellow in Nanotechnology from IIT-Bombay in 2008. Afterwards he spent more than five years abroad as postdoctoral fellow first at University of Padova, Italy and then at University of Tokyo, Japan. He isan experienced researcher with strong research focus on developing new Nano-analytical techniques and novel nanomaterial based devices for forensic investigative research with a special focus on developing sensors of “Explosives and Narcotic drugs’ and ‘Imaging Latent Fingerprints, ‘Developing markers for GSR analysis. As principle investigator, Dr. Maity has conducted research projects sponsored by DST and CSIR in the area of nanotechnology based innovations in forensic investigations. He is also coordinator for NFSU's RUSA grant, DST-FIST grant and SSIP Cell and have so far guided 3 PhD students and 35 Masters Students. He has published more than 34 research papers in international journals with high impact factor and presented his work in more than 20 national and international conferences in India and abroad. Mr. Sagar Bhowmik, Assistant Registrar ‘Mr. Bhowmik has completed his MS in forensic nanotechnology and postgraduate diploma in fingerprint sciences from NFSU. He has submitted his PhD thesis in forensic science. He has expertise in the area of development of nano-sensor for forensic investigations, advance fingerprint development techniques and preventive forensics. He is also serving as Nodal Officer (Eastern India) from 2020. Dr. Arpan Datta Roy, Assistant Professor Dr. Datta Roy did his Ph.D. in Physics from Tripura University (A Central University) in the year 2018. His research interests are digital electronics, FRET, developing biosensors, molecular logic gates, fabrication of thin films and their application in forensic science. He has published more than 15 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 2 book chapters. Dr. Sanay Naha, Assistant Professor Dr. Naha did his Ph.D. in Chemistry from NIT-Trichy in the year 2021. His research interests are bioanalytical ‘and supramolecular chemistry, optical sensing and imaging technology. He has published 12 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 1 book chapter. Dr. Rutwik Shedge, Assistant Professor Dr. Shedge did his Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology from AllMS-lodhpur in the year 2021. His research interests are forensic anthropology, forensic medicine and forensic taphonomy. He has published 17 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 1 book. Dr. Monisha Samuel, Assistant Professor Dr. Samuel did her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from La Trobe University, Australia In the year 2018 and followed by a Post Doc in immunology from Karolinska Institute, Sweden Her research interests are vesicle biology, wound healing,cell death and apoptosis and their application in forensic science. She has published more than 15 research papers in peer reviewed journals and 3 book chapters.
