Standard quality Standard grade semi-finished products are also suitable for anodizing. A decorative finish cannot be expected, however, even after one of the pretreatment methods as in Table 1 has been carried out 4 Designing products for anodizing Products which are to receive a decorative finish shall have a design suitable for anodizing. For example, account is to be taken of necessary centact points, excess widths and lengths, dimensions, and of drainage holes in hollow sections. Welds and extrusion seams may become visible after anodizing, Contact points are a result of the manufacturing process and therefore cannct be avoided. Their location on visible surfaces shall be agreed upon by the customer and the coating producer. 5 Anodizing 5.4 Materials ‘The works carrying cut the treatment shall be informed of the material and temper of the components supplied 5.2. Pretreatment Mechanical, chemical andlor electrochemical pretreatment is caried out to prepare the surface of components, for anodizing, by which particular surface effects can be obtained. The type of treatment shall be designated Using the symbols given in Table 1. Because of technically unavoidable variations, the same treatment may result in diferent surface effects. The customer and the works carrying out the treatment shall agree on the appearance required for rolled and extruded semifinished producis or components made from them. If necessary for the purposes of comparison, the permissible range of variaton shall be defnee by at least two limit samples. 2) For example, €-33, medium bronze, see AluminiumeMerkblatt 41] & az g 8 2 = 2 S 8 5 8 2 2 g Bg 3 2 é ‘ i : : é & az g 8 2 = 2 S 8 5 8 2 2 g Bg 3 2 é ‘ i : : é Table 1 — Surface preparation designation system Pretreatment Notes symbol_| Type of pretreatment = Degreasing and “Surface praparation balore ancdang In which the surlace i dagreased and seoridaton eovicized wtnout Sither pretreatment.
