He was ordained a minister in 1948
Graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and was admitted to
Morehouse College at age 15

He used a non-violence strategy-peaceful protests
“I have a dream speech” 1963 He hoped that the day would come when people
were judged not by the color of their skin but by their actions and the content of their
character.

 1957 – The founding of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC)
 1963 – The Birmingham Campaign.
 1963 – The Great March on Washington.
 1964 – Civil Rights Act of 1964.
 1964 – Nobel Peace Prize.
 1965 – 1965 Voting Rights Act.
After his murder
Violence erupted in American cities with riots and protests that caused
countless damages
Was posthumously honored with the “Presidential Medal of Freedom” in
1977 and the Congressional “Gold Medal” in 2004
Symbolized the decline of a national recognition of American culpability

It says that you should take the first step, with the faith that the rest of the staircase is
there, and that you will be able to get to your destination, if you can manage to keep
taking step after step.
