1. Explain the decarboxylation of an amino acid taking glutamic acid as an example. Give
the significance of this reaction.
2. What is the biological role of thyroxine?
3. Name the vitamin precursor of coenzyme- A and pyridoxal phosphate.

Answer any two of the following questions. Each question carries four marks. 2x4=8

4. How is a- ketoglutarate converted to succinate? Write equations and name the enzymes
and coenzymes involved.
5. a. Calculate the number of ATP yield when one molecule of palmitic acid is subjected to
complete oxidation.
b. Give the reaction for the activation offatty acids. (2+2)
6. Describe the multiple cascade system of epinephrine.
7. a. Mention the deficiency manifestations of vitamin C.
b. Give any two characteristics of the genetic code. (2+2)

8. Depict the reaction sequence of urea cycle. What is the significance of this cycle?
