WOW...WELL DONE! On Friday 19 August Canowindra High School Students got their heads together to raise awareness for Brain Injury. The kids wore either a blue branded bangonabeanie beanie or a hat to show their support. The cause is close to the schools heart as their much loved Canteen Manager Sue Townsends grandson sustained a major injury last year, that left him with an ABI. The school raised over $1,300 for Brain Injury Australia and are hoping to push it a little further. Beanies are still available at businesses in town or by contacting Kim Roberts on 0407 078 433. There are also T-shirts available, and with Fathers Day coming up why not deck dad out and help a great cause at the same time. If you have a beanie take a photo of yourself wearing it and upload it to www.bangonabeanie.com.au on Facebook and you could win a holiday to Bargara Resort in Qld or an iPod Touch, just to name a few prizes that are up for grabs. A big congratulation to Canowindra High School for doing such a fantastic Job.

It was good news for Year 10 students with the P&Cs decision to extend the cessation of Year Shirts, and that this will be the last year for commemorative jerseys. Now that students are required to continue on to the senior years, it was thought that it was no longer necessary to have the shirts, however kudos are in order for the committee for listening to the students and parents. So enjoy Year 10 students, this is an end of an era. Whilst still on a high, this Thursday Year 11 students interested in campaigning and being elected as School Captains for 2012 will participate in a Leadership Day. These students will investigate what leadership is, strategies, and how they can use their understandings to ensure they are effective and vibrant captains for our school over the next 12 months. In the following week students will speak to the whole school about what they see as the role of captain and have the opportunity to campaign before the captains are popularly elected. We wish all potential candidates good luck!

ITS ALMOST SHOW TIME AGAIN! The Show will on 23 & 24 September, and as this is Canowindras 110th Show, there are plans to have a display of some special moments from our local Show history. If anyone has any historic Show Schedules, photos, ribbons or trophies that you would like to lend for the occasion they will be most welcomed and appreciated. For further information please contact Debbie on 6344 2490 or 0427 441 832 or contact Jo at the Phoenix Office at 65 Gaskill Street. In the following weeks the Phoenix will have information on the various sections in the Cobley Pavilion. The usual Sections will be available to enter with some additional Classes. This years Schedule will be sent out to all the wonderful people who have paid their membership fees, and will be available from the Newsagency from next week. Now is the time to start thinking of what you would like to enter. This is your Show and it is through your wonderful entries that we receive, that the Canowindra Show continues to grow and succeed each year. This year the Poultry event is being revived, and there is a Junior novelty section for best dressed chook and best decorated cage. There will be section or event for everyone this year, keep your eyes out for the Schedule. WIT WANTED YOU are eagerly invited to enter the Canowindra Health Centre Fitness Path Project Slogan Competition. As you can see, the formal project name is quite a mouthful, so a catchier, snappy, creative and fun slogan is needed to give it broader appeal to use when applying for funding. An example is Swap talk the talk for walk the walk. The 2.5m wide fitness path is being planned for the perimeter of the top oval and we are looking for a memorable and catchy slogan for this project, . A great prize is up for grabs for the winner a $50 IGA voucher generously sponsored by the Phoenix. So get your thinking caps on and email you ideas to the Phoenix at admin@canowindraphoenix.com.au or on 0418 413 753. The winner will be announced at the Community Meeting 6pm on Thursday 15 September.
