The Legend Of The Origin Of The Bird Of Paradise

Tells the story of a child named Kweiya who lives with mother Baria, stepfather (Mr. Bone) and
younger stepsisters, Niko and Kiara. One day Kweiya does not follow his father and mother to the
fields. Kweiya taught her two younger siblings to learn how to weave noken, Papuan bags made of
wood fiber. Niko, one of Kweiya's half-brothers, feels hopeless because he can't make a noken, he
instead stretches out the thread. Kweiya reprimanded him, because the thread that had been
stretched out was difficult to intertwine. Niko ignored his brother's words. He keeps stalling the
threads to be irregular. Kweiya didn't say much, but he immediately took the thread Niko stretched
out and then entered the house a little annoyed.

Kiara, Kweiya's half little sister, called her sister who didn't come out of the house. It turned
out that in the house, Kweiya was hiding in one corner of the house while spinning yarn. The spun
yarn will be used to make wings. When the father and mother came home from the fields, they
joined in looking for Kweiya after hearing about the incident that caused Kweiya to leave her two
younger siblings. In crowds, they searched while calling out Kweiya's name, but all they heard was
the sound of a bird. Every time Kweiya's name was called, the one who answered instead bird sound.
That voice turned out to be Kweiya's voice who had inserted spun threads in his armpits. Then, he
jumped onto the roof of the house and flew to one of the tree branches around the house. It turned
out that Kweiya had turned into a very beautiful bird with colorful feathers. Knowing this, Baria's
mother burst into tears while asking for spun yarn. He sat cross-legged while staring at the birds in
the tree branches.

Baria's mother still couldn't believe the sight in front of her. Then, he asked Kweiya who had
turned into a bird about the spun thread for him. Kweiya told her that the spun thread was inserted
in the mat umbrella. Mrs. Baria immediately looked for the spun thread and put it in her armpit.
Instantly, Baria's mother turned into a bird. After that, he flapped his wings and followed Kweiya
perched on a tree branch. Meanwhile, Kweiya's father and two half-sisters could only surrender to
the miraculous event. Then, Pak Bone gave the bird the name manbefor. To express their affection
for Baria and Kweiya's mother, Kiara and Niko cover their faces with a black cloth. Instantly, they
turned into birds and flew into the jungle following Baria and Kweiya's mother.
