Intro with TFA

The TFA triangle represents an important principle
of emo4onal intelligence.

There is a dynamic interac4on of our feelings,

thoughts, and ac4ons. It’s not a simple or linear
process, but as we prac4ce emo4onal intelligence
we come to see these interac4ons more clearly, and
expand our choices in all three areas.

Here’s how to use the TFA process to introduce

the Six Seconds Model of Emo4onal Intelligence.

1. Think of a recent situa4on (that didn’t work out well). Think

back to yourself half-way or 3/4 of the way through that
situa4on:

What were some of your thoughts, feelings, ac4ons?

This step uses the Know Yourself “pursuit” in the
model — it’s about seeing emo;ons and reac;ons
more clearly.

2. If you were in a similar situa4on again, if you had

the chance, might you choose any different
responses?

What feelings, ac4ons, or thoughts might you prefer?

Step two engages the Choose Yourself part of the model —
pausing to inten;onally respond instead of reac;ng on
“autopilot.”

3. Why might you choose that new response? What might be the purpose and human connec4on that
fuels this change of ac4ons, thoughts, feelings?

Step 3 refers to the Give Yourself part of the model. It’s about each of us connec;ng carefully with our
own purpose and with others.
