    Michael’s Easy Guide to IUPAC Nomenclature

    1. Number the longest carbon chain

    *4 carbons = but- prefix*

    2. Highlight functional groups for naming

    *alkene = -ene suffix*

    3. Identify which carbon has the functional group

    carbon #1, so = 1-ene (alkene)

    4. Put the prefix and suffix together
