Summary of ACW Video -

Task 1

● South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana were the first
American States to adopt an ordinance of secession.
● On February 4th, 1861, the delegates from the states that adopted an ordinance
secession drafted a constitution for the Confederacy and Jefferson Davis was chosen as
temporary president.
● On April 12th, 1861, the confederates started the first battle of the ACW by attacking
Fort Sumter and gaining control of the port of Charleston, but Lincoln got 75,000
volunteers to stop this rebellion. Right after this, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and
Arkansas seceded and joined the confederates summing up to 11 states in the
Confederates group, while the Union had 23 states.
● On July 21st the first major battle happened between the Union and the Confederates.
The Confederate general, "Stonewall" Jackson led the confederates to a victory.
● In 1862, Union general Ulysses Grant, took the battle to central Tennessee and there
won but it didn't stop there, the Confederates generals prepared for a surprise attack at
Shiloh, which started well but with Union reinforcements they were forced to withdraw.
● In November, 1863, the Union had a new military leader which started attacking
Confederate territory, overall the Union was slowly overcoming the Confederates.
● Many fierce battles were happening but the Union was overcoming the confederates
mostly in Atlanta and the state of Mississippi.
● The defense force on petersburg were finally broken and forced to retreat while the
Union invaded
● Two of the most important military leaders of the Confederacy surrendered in April 1865.
President Lincoln was assassinated that same month of 1865 and 12 days after his
death the confederates made their final surrender.
● Overall there were more than 600,000 deaths and over 1,000,000 american casualties

Task 2

● Economy of both sides before, during and after the ACW
● Clothing of soldiers from the confederates, soldiers form the union and regular citizens
