28, 1969.

● The Stonewall Riots were follow by a lot of days of protests

in New York, which led to the founding of the Gay
Liberation Front and other gay, lesbian, and bisexual civil
rights organizations. Many consider it to be the first
significant protest in history in support of equal rights for
gays.

● The riots are largely regarded as a historic moment in the

gay liberation movement and the fight for LGBT rights in
the United States in the twentieth century.

stop illegal searches, and respect gay, lesbian, and
bisexual people's basic rights and dignity.

community of Silver Lake despite the dangers
surrounding LGBTQ spaces at the time.

● The Black Cat grew popular as a destination for queer

Angelenos looking for a safe space to gather.

years before the protest at The Black Cat in 1967.
