5. How the information system has changed the way work is done?

Management information system has changed the way is done in Samsung by using several
ways. First is batch processing method of updating a database in which data are collected over
some time and processed together. Special subset of a data warehouse that deals with a single
area of data and is organized for quick analysis. Management information technology combines
many databases across Samsung into one central database that supports management decision-
making. Management information system that helps managers make decisions using interactive
computer models that describe real-world processes. Management information system that is
customized for an individual executive; provides specific information for strategic decisions.
Management information system gives Samsung managers advice like what they would get from
a human consultant; it uses artificial intelligence to enable computers to reason and learn to solve
problems in much the same way humans do. Management information system uses the internal
master database to perform high-level analyses that help managers make better decisions. A
method of updating a database in which data are processed as they become available.
Management information system that handles the daily business operations of Samsung. The
system receives and organizes raw data from internal and external sources for storage in a
database using either batch or online processing in Samsung. Samsung use management
information system to apply its AI-powered interface, Bixby, to the Galaxy S8 in 2017, and now
users can control their major Galaxy devices using only their voice. In addition, Samsung has
been incorporating AI technologies into its device OS, battery, and camera in order to improve
performance and convenience. Samsung is trying to enhance the internal operations using six-
stigma model. They have adopted an approach called “DMAEV” that means define, measure,
analyze, enable, and verify (Szeremeta 2013). Samsung has implemented APS system in that
helps their operating team to develop a flexible production plan. To survive in such an
environment, Samsung has adopted the elements of American management style like bold risk
taking, securing core talent, strong performance-based incentives, creative organizational culture,
and high speed. Because of Management information system has changed the way word done in
Samsung it has increased the value of Samsung. The value of the goods and services a company
offers is based on demand and on how quickly the company can deliver them. With better
customer data and increased external inputs, the modern accounting system can better predict
sales and track trends. Once sales estimates are in place, modern accounting systems let the
company place corresponding orders and track progress quickly and accurately. Faster response
to market demands, fewer demand bottlenecks and less overproduction add value to the
company's spectrum of products and services.

6. How the information system has changed the communication pattern?

If Samsung owners and managers need to be informed about the overall operation of a company
and key areas of responsibility. If the Samsung president calls and wants to know how much
sales have increased in each of the last four years, the sales manager must provide the
information. Management information systems give the access to key data about all department
in and about the Samsung in general. If the manager needs reference information for a bid or for
regulatory purposes, management information systems are a good source. Of late, organizations
throughout the world have grown. As such, it has become difficult for managers to manage the
various functions of the business. The reason being the information is very vast and it is difficult
for them to interpret the same. Management Information System provides only the relevant
information to the managers so that they can take proper decisions. Due to the vast information,
managers get confused and this hampers the decisions to be taken. Management Information
System eases the difficulty by summarizing the information in Samsung. Management
Information System helps in decentralizing the authority in Samsung. Management Information
System helps in sending information to the concerned departments of Samsung. As a result, all
the departments of Samsung have up-to-date information. Management Information System
maintains a link between all the departments in Samsung. Management Information System
helps in maintaining a link between the planning and control procedures of Samsung. Because of
Management information system has changed the communication pattern in Samsung has a
continuous improvement in business. In contrast to paper-based accounting systems, where older
records are difficult to evaluate because the volume of paper increases with the time range of the
evaluation, modern systems can easily display old records and trends based on previous years.
Managers can consult old budgets and cost data to improve current estimates. When external
conditions change, modern systems can predict results for different scenarios, allowing
management to improve forecasting with predictions for all eventualities. A manager using such
systems can continuously improve the accuracy of his forecasting.

7. How the information system has changed the collaboration process?

Management information system provides a mechanism for team members in Samsung to share
knowledge and expertise with other members so a project can be completed accurately and
promptly. For example, a collaborative web-based mind mapping tool allows employees to
structure ideas while other members can make updates to the map simultaneously. Management
information system architecture is the term used to describe the structure of Samsung system,
i.e., the way information is grouped, the navigation methods and terminology used within the
Samsung system. Because of Management information system has changed the collaboration
process in Samsung has reduced error in their business. While not able to eliminate human error,
modern accounting systems have verification capabilities that reduce the frequency of such
errors. Once the data is entered correctly, it is permanently captured and reading errors are
eliminated. Programmers can format fields so that the system only accepts data in the correct
format. They can impose data verification, so the system checks whether the data is reasonable,
and rejects it if it isn't. These measures improve the accuracy of reports and the reliability of
management forecasts, reducing costly mistakes in operations based on such reports.

8. Give example of system that is used by the company according to the category below:

a) Customer Relationship Manager (CRM)

Samsung is using the mobile sales and campaign management capabilities of mySAP CRM
in France, and the campaign management capability in the United States, to streamline
internal marketing processes and execute more effective marketing campaigns, from
campaign planning and content management to target customer definition, market
segmentation and communication. Regarding communication, Samsung's strategy is
attracting customer by introducing its product features; guiding consumers how to use
product better.
b) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)

Samsung is using N-ERP (Next Generation – Enterprise Resource Planning) system in its
regional and local offices in Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia, and China. The N-ERP is the
enhanced system of the current G-ERP (Global ERP) which has managed the company’s
global operation throughout manufacturing sites and sales offices worldwide. N-ERP, the
company plans to effectively support innovations in future business such as the expansion
of D2C (Direct to Consumer) business. Samsung adopted the latest ERP package and
advanced solutions and designed the flexible system which is capable of handling various
businesses in the future. The N-ERP provides the improved system performance required
to process large amounts of data; flexible architecture and process to adapt to new
businesses such as D2C; and helps maximize productivity by introducing new automated
technologies such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Artificial Intelligence
(AI).

c) Supplier Chain Management (SCM)

Samsung SDI's main supply chain is a partner company that supplies raw materials for
products and is defined as a supplier of battery raw materials such as electrode plates,
assembled materials, and PACK materials, and a supplier of raw materials of electronic
materials such as SILICA. Samsung strives to achieve cost competitiveness as well as
operational efficiency through strategic supply chain management while maintaining its
focus on sustainability as well. The supply chain management strategy of the company is
based on five important criteria. They are cost competitiveness, human resources capacity,
on-time delivery, response to risk and supplier competitiveness. Samsung focuses on the
economic, social as well as environmental aspects of its supply chain operations to manage
its impact in all the three areas. The focus of Samsung’s supply chain management strategy is
to ensure an all-encompassing competitive edge in terms of cost, delivery, quality,
technology, and human resources in order to maximize synergy, speed, and efficiency with its
suppliers and create a corporate ecosystem that enables sustainable growth. Cost efficiency,
product quality as well as technology are some important focus areas in terms of supply
chain management for Samsung.

d) Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

i. Introduction Stage – This stage of the cycle could be the most expensive for a Samsung
launching a new product. The size of the market for the product is small, which means
sales are low, although they will be increasing. On the other hand, the cost of things like
research and development, consumer testing, and the marketing needed to launch the
product can be very high, especially if it’s a competitive sector.
ii. Growth Stage – The growth stage is typically characterized by a strong growth in sales
and profits, and because the company can start to benefit from economies of scale in
production, the profit margins, as well as the overall amount of profit, will increase. This
makes it possible for businesses to invest more money in the promotional activity to
maximize the potential of this growth stage.
iii. Maturity Stage – During the maturity stage, the product is established and the aim for the
manufacturer is now to maintain the market share they have built up. This is probably the
most competitive time for most products and businesses need to invest wisely in any
marketing they undertake. They also need to consider any product modifications or
improvements to the production process which might give them a competitive advantage.
iv. Decline Stage – Eventually, the market for a product will start to shrink, and this is what
‘s known as the decline stage. This shrinkage could be due to the market becoming
saturated (i.e., all the customers who will buy the product have already purchased it), or
because the consumers are switching to a different type of product. While this decline
may be inevitable, it may still be possible for companies to make some profit by
switching to less-expensive production methods and cheaper markets.
