Although Sir Thomas Wyatt and the Earl of Surrey produced their creative

contributions prior to the year 1579, the Elizabethan literary age did not begin in
its proper form until 1579. Sir Wyatt is credited with bringing the sonnet  to
England from Italy, where it first gained popularity. He composed his sonnet in
the style of Petrarch, using the octave and sestet as the traditional metre.
Shakespeare was the one who ultimately transformed it into the English sonnet
Elizabethan

couplet. The Earl of Surrey is credited with writing the very first blank poem in
the English language. The Elizabethan era was responsible for the production of
a lot of great lyrics. Sir Philip Sidney was widely regarded as one of the greatest

2 WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
The most accomplished writer of plays. Shakespeare was another outstanding
poet of this age. He is responsible for the creation of approximately 130
sonnets, all of which hold a prominent place in the canon of English literature.
He created a new type of sonnet that is known as the English sonnet or the
Shakespearean sonnet. These sonnets use the rhyme scheme abab cdcd efef gg.
It is not a Petrarchan sonnet, as opposed to that. The majority of his sonnets
make reference to a lady, another poet, and a ravishing beauty with dark eyes.

3 EDMUND SPENCER
Edmund Spencer was a well-known poet who provided an accurate introduction
to the Elizabethan era. In the year 1579, he penned a poem called The
Shepherd's Calendar, which was divided into twelve books, with each book
