BANANA

Scientific name Musa

The first scientific term given to banana
is Musa paradisiaca Linn. Publish in
1753 by Linnaeus in his book species
plantarum The original of modern
botanical nomenclature. He’s simple
description was based on plantain
cultivar bearing long and slender fruits
that remain starchy even when fully
ripe.

Banana is the best agriculture product

of the Philippines which makes the
Philippines banana export industry the
second largest in the world. The rate of
ripening could be reduced by
refrigeration, but below 10°C the fruits
suffered chilling-injuires. High levels of
CO2 appeared to harm the bananas
although the green life was prolonged.
Removal of C2H4 extended the green life
of stored fruit. Storage under low
humidity and low CO2 concentrations
reduced the green life slightly, and fruit
quality was slightly impaired.
Recommended storage conditions are:
temperature, 20°C; athmosphere,
continual C2H4 removal and low (5–10%
v/v) CO2 concentrations; humidity,
about 80%. Application of exogenous
C2H4 was the best method of hastening
ripening without loss in fruit quality or
flavour.
 Day 1. The banana is still green but
has a invisible yellow
 Day 2. The banana is still green but

spot.

 The third day of  observation in the

hanging the banana can see that the
banana is slight ripe. the color
is yellow but it is increasing the
black a space
 The four day of observation the
banana and hanging can be seen
that the banana is over ripe.
the banana is so many black spot.
the banana is rotten.

Our observation on the refrigerated

banana and hanging banana is that
the refrigerated banana takes longer
to rot and the hanging banana rots
quickly.
