Describe a failure you had at work/at an interview and what you learnt from

it. Use the grammar presented in Lesson 10B.

In 2020 I had a job interview to apply for a fellowship at a private hospital. I had done my
residency in a public hospital with a lot of monetary issues and I was very tired of dealing
with bureaucracy in the public sector. In the interview they asked me what was the reason
I chose to take the fellowship in that hospital and I said that it was because of the good
equipment and supplies’ quality. The interviewer didn't like the answer because it wasn't
related to academic training. Although they ended up hiring me they told me that what I said
was a mistake and I had never had to repeat it. I think that they must have felt I wasn't
concerned about the training. I wouldn't have said that if I had known that it was so
important. I learnt an interesting lesson that day: you shouldn't focus on the economic side in
a job interview.
