Beyond being a violence prevention strategy, it has become a movement that seeks to raise
awareness about the consequences of violence in the region. Born as a campaign in Social
Networks, the movement #Juntos We Prevent, developed by the International Republican
Institute (IRI), sought to cover several objectives: mapping the relevant actors on the issue
of violence, the causes and effects of violence in the region, the participation of citizens in
the issue of violence prevention and the differences between violence and aggression. A
fusion between Art and Social Activism that has led to demonstrate that the citizen is the
most valuable element to prevent violence from being generated. As the title of this
publication indicates, violence in Social Networks is a phenomenon that we must prevent.
Drs. Sandra M Weirzba and Cecilia C. Danesi reflect on a preventive solution to a current
problem that affects very personal rights and that is reflected in our day to day: violence in
social networks.
We propose the development of action protocols and algorithms adapted to our culture and
legal system, duly reviewed and trained, where the last word falls on a human, as the first
necessary tool for prevention under analysis. It will also be unavoidable to impose a fluid
and attentive expert control of specialized state agencies (responsible for communication
and new technologies, public defenders of communication services or related) on those
tools designed by the companies operating social networks, and desirable some type of
citizen participation during its course.
Send targeted threats to specific individuals through digital means, such as text messages,
emails, and comments on social media and websites. Spreading rumors that are not true.
Create a page about someone with information or photos that are embarrassing and that
violate their dignity.
It is a type of violence that uses electronic information such as emails, social networks,
blogs, instant messaging, text messages, cell phones, to harass an individual or group in a
systematic way, through personal attacks, mockery, intimidation, harassment, defamation
and stop you from ...
The youngest are stalked and humiliated by peers through various technological means,
where social networks are central, generating problems of social and educational
adaptation, great anguish and fear; in extreme cases, even suicides.
