Lesson:A Good Deed
Textual Question
Q1. How did farmer Fleming save the boy?

Ans: One day, Fleming was on his way to his farm when he heard a cry for help from a
nearby bog in the woods. He immediately rushed towards the bog to save the victim in time.
When he reached there, he found a young terrified boy covered to his waste in black slushy
mud. The boy was screaming and struggling to free himself from the soft mud and decaying
plants as he sank deeper in the slush. He hurriedly lowered a bamboo towards the boy and
saved him from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

Q2.How did the nobleman repay the farmer?

Ans: The nobleman repaid the farmer by sponsoring his son’s education and providing him
the same education that his own son was enjoying. The farmer’s son took full benefit of this
opportunity and went on to attend the best schools in Scotland at that time. He finally
graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London and became famous as Sir
Alexander Fleming.

Q3.Who saved the nobleman’s son the second time and how?

Ans: The nobleman’s son, Sir Winston Churchill, had a fatal attack of pneumonia and the
Penicillin discovered by Sir Alexander Fleming was the only cure for the disease. So,
indirectly, the farmer’s son saved the life of Winston Churchill the second time.

Q4. Why did the farmer accept the deal?

Ans: The farmer accepted the deal because it was a golden opportunity for his son to receive
the best education available at that time. He knew that he would not be able to provide his
son with an expensive education. So, he readily agreed for the sake of his son, so that his son
could become successful in his life.

Q1. What do you think the phrase’ what goes around comes around’ mean?
Or

What is the moral of the story?

Ans: “What goes around comes around” or “as you sow, so shall you reap” is the basic
understanding of how karma, the law of cause and effect, works. Depending on one’s
actions, one will reap the fruits of those actions. The fruits may be sweet or sour, depending
on the nature of the actions performed. Everything we say and do determines what’s going to
happen to us in the future.

So, say good words, think good thoughts and do good deeds. Don’t devalue or hurt anyone in
life. We should be positive and selflessly help others without thinking of getting a reward.
The rewards and benefits would automatically follow us.
