Treatment for Asperger’s ASD

Introduction:
As we have seen previously, ASD symptoms and causes can vary from person to person, and
so do the treatments. Because each case is different, treatment plans must be adapted to
each case. However, in general, ASD treatment usually includes a mix of speech, physical,
occupational, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

1. CBT
First and foremost, there is CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy). This kind of therapy teaches
people with Asperger’s syndrome how to act socially and cope with their emotions. It
teaches important skills such as controlling impulses, fears, anxiety, obsessions,
interrupting, and outbursts.

2. Social skills and speech therapy

Second of all, social skills and speech therapy can also help with Asperger’s syndrome. This
kind of therapy helps to learn important conversation skills such as learning to take turns
while talking, making eye contact, showing interest in what the other person says, and
learning to talk about a variety of topics, not obsessing over one topic.

3. Physical therapy
In third place, there is physical therapy: a needed skill to work on with people suffering with
Asperger’s syndrome as they may appear clumsy. That way, physical therapist helps patients
to develop core body strength. An imperative skill as it helps them with ordinary tasks such
as running, jumping, pedaling a bike, walking up and down stairs, and other physical
movement activities.

4. Occupational therapy
Last but not least, there is occupational therapy. An occupational therapist helps people
with Asperger’s syndrome with their fine motor skills. In other words, anything requiring the
use of their hands such as handwriting skills. They also can work to help your child cope with
sensory issues (noise, touch, smell, or visual stimuli) such as issues related to eating
different types of food textures and types.

5. Psychoactive medicines
Additionally, we could also complement Asperger’s treatment with psychoactive medicines
that target other psychological issues that can complicate this syndrome such as anxiety,
depression, or inability to focus often related to Asperger’s syndrome. However, there is no
such thing as a medicine to directly treat Asperger’s syndrome.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the best and most effective way, to treat and reduce the impact Asperger
symptoms, is to fuse together these 5 treatments and to be consistent with them.
