Question from Group 2

If nag-exceed na sa max life expectancy ‘yung well tanks and hindi siya napalitan agad, ano yung massive
effect nito?

Answer: The average lifespan of a water tank is estimated at around 15 years, but the brand and quality
of your tank make a huge difference, just like any other appliance. However, if the well tank exceeds its
life expectancy, it does not mean that we need to replace the whole tank, but we can just change or
replace some parts of it. Moreover, if the tank failed to fulfill its function and it was not
replaced/repaired, its massive effects are the following:

1. Certain well pressure tank problems, such as a broken foot valve, can cause the well pump to run
constantly. As a result, the pump uses far more electricity than under normal operation. To know if your
well water system is using too much electricity, monitor your electrical bill every month to determine
any spikes in the future.

2. Low Water Pressure - If you aren’t getting water from the well or the flow is very weak, you could
have a leaky or failing pressure tank. There are a few more issues that this could be, such as a stuck
check valve or a clog in the pipe causing the switch to sense the pressure incorrectly.

3. Water hammer, also known as hydraulic shock or hydraulic surge, is an event where water abruptly
stops or changes directions. When this happens, pipes knock together to make a banging sound. When
water hammer occurs, pressure inside the pipes can exceed ten times the normal pressure of the
system. If this hydraulic shock occurs frequently, pipes can leak, rupture, or cause damage to connected
pumps and valves in the system.

Thus, Make sure you are keeping up with maintenance and minor repairs and always be aware of any of
the above issues. Also, always double check with an expert before you try any home repairs when it
comes to such a delicate mechanism. Faulty repairs can cause more harm than good and ensuring that
your water supply is safe and clean should always be your number one priority.
