iLINK (Northwestern Online Catalog) Search
Go to: http://nsula.louislibraries.org/uhtbin/webcat 1. Click Help and drag down to click on searching. Then drag down and click on Searching Tips 2. Click Power Search 3. Type Oedipus Rex in Subject box, and peruse the list for items that can be checked out (not in REFERENCE) To create a list you can email to yourself or print out: 1. Click on Keep beside any title you may want the Circulation Desk to obtain for you 2. After you have clicked Keep beside all titles you want on your list, click Kept 3. Note the drop-down boxes and make any changes you want 4. When ready, click View so that you can see your list before you print it or email it to yourself 5. You can print either from the View screen or, you can return to the previous screen and click Print Formatted 6. With this list in hand, you are now ready to request an Interlibrary Loan Note that any item that is in a location of ONLINE, you can browse or check out to yourself immediately (I recommend browsing online books instead of checking out to yourself) To locate similar titles in iLINK: 1. Click Details and drag down to Subject Term 2. Click on the term(s) 3. Checkmark pertinent titles 4. Click Keep 5. Click Print Text or Email [and type your email address]

Interlibrary Loan Request


1. With your kept list in hand from your catalog search, go to the Interlibrary Loan link provided on the previous page 2. You will need to submit page 1 plus however many book forms you need (1 form per book). You can print out, for example, 3 pages of page 3 if you are requesting 3 books from the Watson or Leesville campuses. 3. There is no charge for requesting a Northwestern-owned item. 4. Attach your Kept list to your form and submit it at the Shreveport Circulation Desk.

Academic Search Premier


Following the instructions for NSU authorized users, sign on to Academic Search Premier 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Click on Advanced Search tab Type the name of a work in the first box Leave the Boolean operator to and Type the name of the author of the work in the second box Limit the hits to full text and to scholarly, peer-reviewed journals Click Search Peruse your hits, paying attention to whether or not the journal is a literature journal Pay attention to the number of pages in the article. If you are unable to print from the PC, email the article to yourself, taking care to clear your email account before you begin sending articles to yourself.

Type in the name of your author (e.g., Sophocles or Tennessee Williams) 2. Click on the hits and peruse each essay for information about the work you want discussed (e.g., Oedipus Rex or Glass Menagerie) 3. Click Print or email and remember that you will also need to cite the database in addition to the original source (e.g., Retrieved on March 2, 2004, from Biography Resource Center)

Following the instructions for NSU authorized users, sign on to Literature Resource Center To verify the correct name and get leads to the author and criticism, 1. Cick Gale Literary Index 2. Click Title Search 3. Type the title as you know it in Title box (e.g., Oedipus Rex or Glass Menagerie) 4. Change button to Match all words entered 5. Type the author if you know it in the Author box (e.g., Sophocles or Tennessee Williams) 6. Click Search 7. Click on the authors name and read the entry. Here you will find a list of other titles his works are known by and a list of references that contain discussions of the work(s). 8. Return to the main menu for Literature Resource Center

Click Encyclopedia of Literature 1. Type in the authors name (e.g., Sophocles or Tennessee Williams) 2. From here you can click print or email the document. 3. In addition to the Source be sure to write down the name of the database from which it comes for your citation (e.g., Retrieved on March 2, 2004, from Literature Resource Center) Click Advanced Search 1. Type the name of the work in the first box, and change the drop-down box to Title exact match 2. Leave the Boolean operator as AND 3. Type the name of the author in the second box, and change the drop-down box to Author name contains 4. Change the Document Type to Critical Essay 5. Click Search and then click on the links to peruse the essays 6. From here you can click print or email the document. 7. In addition to the Source, be sure to write down the name of the database from which it comes for your citation (e.g., Retrieved on March 2, 2004, from Literature Resource Center)

Scribner Writer Series


Following the instructions for NSU authorized users, sign on to Scribner Writer Series 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Click on Writers A-Z Click on the letter for an authors last name (e.g., Sophocles or Williams) Drag down and look for your authors name, then click on the name Click on the Format for Printing button, and then follow the prompts for printing In addition to the Source, be sure to write down the name of the database from which it comes for your citation (e.g., Retrieved on March 2, 2004, from Scribner Writer Series)

Twayne Authors Series


Following the instructions for NSU authorized users, sign on to Twayne Authors Series 1. 2. 3. 4. Click on Authors A-Z Click on the letter for an authors last name (e.g., Sophocles or Williams) Drag down and look for your authors name, then click on the name From here, drag down to look for the name of the work you are interested in (e.g., Oedipus Rex or Glass Menagerie)
