GARDEN ARRANGEMENT GUIDE

HELLO AND WELCOME!

I''m Maggie

I love growing botanicals and

designing with the seasons.
Here at Petal Back Farm we
grow 1,000s of botanicals,
mostly because I can't not! I
love getting to know them,
and something tells me that
you do too.

Whenever I'm asked to create

a lush garden piece, I get so
excited to spend a little extra
time perusing nature for stems
that seem just right!

In this guide, I'm sharing each

ingredient of the arrangement
on the cover, including variety
names and sources, as well as
my wares and even the
backdrop in this photo!

FOCAL FLOWERS

Dahlias

This dahlia is one of my all-

time favorites: Jowey Winnie.
While I don't recall where I
got our original stock, you can
search Jowey Winnie at
dahliaaddict.com to find
suppliers or we'll have her
available in our tuber sale.

SUPPORTING FLOWERS

Lisianthus

It's no secret that I love

lisianthus and Voyage Light
Apricot has stolen my heart.
These beauties were grown
from plugs from Farmer
Bailey.

FILLERS

Nicotiana

In the past, I grew the

chartreuse variety but did not
love it. I almost cut nicotiana
completely, but decided to
give 'Bronze Queen' a try in
2022 and it's a new favorite
filler! Seed is from Johnny's.

FILLERS

Sabiosa

Although I'm not a fan of

harvesting scabiosa, as I
always tend to get the stems
tangled, I will always grow it
because I love designing with
it. Here we have 'Black Knight'
from Ball.

FILLERS

Sabiosa

This scabiosa variety is called

'Fata Morgana' and the seed is
from Johnny's. She's absolutely
exquisite! That said, Fata
Morgana shows many shades
from pale buttercream, to
salmon, to light pink. If you're
after that coveted salmon
color, plant more than you
think!

FILLERS

Chocolate Lace Flower

Another favorite moody filler:

Dara or Chocolate Lace
Flower. Seed is from Johnny's.
I love to situate her lacy
umbels at the very top of an
arrangement.

FOLIAGE

Basil

I love using basil as foliage

for an arrangement because
not only does it have
interesting spikey flowers, but
it is also deliciously fragrant.
Here I used 'Mrs. Burns
Lemon' and the seed is from
Johnny's.

FOLIAGE

Scented Geranium

Scented geranium is such

fabulous foliage. Here I used
'Attar of Roses' and I ordered
mine as plants from both
Select Seeds and Strictly
Medicinal.

FOLIAGE

Vines

Japanese beetles are the only

things that love this vine more
than me! Even though they
downright demolish it by the
end of the season, I still grow
it because I love it for floral
arrangements THAT much.
This particular vine is called
balloon vine, balloon plant, or
love in a puff. I prefer the
name 'Love in a Puff" for
obvious reasons, and I get my
seeds from Ball.

FRUIT

Cherry Tomatoes

When I started gardening, I

grew no flowers: only fruits
and vegetables. I love to
incorporate my favorite
edibles into arrangements for
some flare.

Here we have 'Brad's Atomic

Grape' from Baker Creek.
While I use a number of
different cherry tomatoes, I
love the unique color of Brad
and his fruits cling tight to the
vine (rarely drop). In fact, the
two in the original picture I
pulled off intentionally to
make room for the vine and to
have them on the table. The
vines don't actually need to
touch the water (they'll be
fine), but I think it adds a
whimsical touch.

BACKDROP

Woodville Workshop

My photography backdrop is
'Angers' from Woodville
Workshop. It is a hand-panted
plywood backdrop created to
look like concrete. I love it!
