2. What is evapotranspiration ?

3. Classify soil based on particle size

4. What do you understand by the term ‘infiltration’ as used in irrigation engineering?

5. Write down an equation for estimation of the depth of water stored in the root zone and explain all terms
involved

6. Briefly explain the term ‘leaching water requirement’

7. What is the Sodium Absorption Ratio S.A.R. as applied to irrigation water quality

PART B (3X4)

8. (a) With aid of sketch explain different zones of soil as applied in irrigation

(b) With aid of sketch define the following terms
(i) Field capacity
(i) Available moisture to the plant
(ii) Permanent wilting point

9 (a) Differentiate between permeability and infiltration

OR
(b) What is the objective of drainage system in an irrigated field?
