WORD LISTS
ADVANCED LEVEL (IBNU SINA, IBNU KHALDUN, AL KHAWARIZMI)
 Conducted by English Teacher in their respective classes during PdPc
between 12- 18 May 2021.
 Please repeat the word twice. Read the meaning of the words too.
 Do not reveal the list of words to the students.

1. Deficiency
Meaning: a state of not having, or not having enough, of something that
is needed.
Sentence: Pregnant women often suffer from iron deficiency.

2. Mercenary
Meaning: interested only in the amount of money that you can get from
a situation.
Sentence: He had some mercenary scheme to marry a wealthy widow.

3. Cameos
Meaning: a small but noticeable part in a film or play, performed by a
famous actor.
Sentence: He appears briefly towards the end of the film in a cameo role
as a priest.

4. Precipitate
Meaning: to make something happen suddenly or sooner than expected.
Sentence: An invasion would certainly precipitate a political crisis.

5. Annoyance
Meaning: to make someone slightly angry or upset. Adjective word for
annoy.
Sentence: As soon as he saw me, a look of annoyance crossed his face.
6. Privilege
Meaning: an advantage that only one person or group of people has,
usually because of their position or because they are rich.
Sentence: Senior management enjoy certain privileges, such as company
cars and health insurance.

7. Outrageous
Meaning: shocking and morally unacceptable.
Sentence: These prices are just outrageous.

8. Ominous
Meaning: suggesting that something unpleasant is likely to happen.
Sentence: There was an ominous silence when I asked whether my
contract was going to be renewed.

9. Prestigious
Meaning: very much respected and admired, usually because of being
important.
Sentence: The car won some of the industry's most prestigious awards.

10. Consequence
Meaning: a result of a particular action or situation, often one that is bad
or not convenient.
Sentence: Scientists think it is unlikely that any species will actually
become extinct as a consequence of the oil spill.

11. Vivacious
Meaning: A vivacious person, especially a woman or girl, is attractively
energetic and enthusiastic.
Sentence: He brought along his wife, a vivacious blonde, some 20 years
his junior.
12. Phenomenon
Meaning: something that exists and can be seen, felt, tasted, etc.,
especially something unusual or interesting.
Sentence: There's evidence to suggest that child abuse is not just a
recent phenomenon.

13. Relieve
Meaning: to make an unpleasant feeling, such as pain or worry, less
strong.
Sentence: She was given a shot of morphine to relieve the pain.

14. Optimistic
Meaning: hoping or believing that good things will happen in the future.
Sentence: She is optimistic about her chances of winning a gold medal.

15. Malicious
Meaning: intended to harm or upset other people.
Sentence: He complained that he'd been receiving malicious phone calls.
