Engaging reluctant writers: the nature of reluctance to write and the effect of a
self-regulation strategy training programme on the engagement and writing
performance of reluctant writers in secondary school English

I. Introduction
Two or three paragraphs that introduces what your topic is all about or
what the paper covers. It should also state in general form the objective of your
paper (which can be stated in the last paragraph of your Introduction).
III. The Critique Proper
a. Description. Describe what the paper (being critiqued) is all about. You
can capture significant points or statements in the original work and do not forget
to cite properly.
b. Analysis and Interpretation. The analysis and interpretation intertwine as
when you do the analysis you can also present your interpretation of the paper
you are working on. You have to analize the papers/studies based on the
principles that you learned and how they are applied in the studies you are
working on. Look into its language and format as well and comment on their
appropriateness as well as limitations (if there are) for a scholarly work.
c. Evaluation. You will pass your “value judgement” of the paper for its
academic worthiness and whether it serves as a good reference or resource
material for a student like you in doing research or for teaching.
IV. Conclusions
 Based on your critique (Part II) provide generalizations of the studies.
Start with the positive points first before going to the negative points or their
weaknesses.
V. References
Cite all the references that you used in this paper. Including the
references of your classmates’ papers/reports which you did a critique on and
also the books that you used in citing the principles or arguments to make a
sound academic work. Use APA format in referencing.
