Meetings to be Held in the Metaverse

The rapid development of technology at this time is

evidenced by the existence of the Metaverse or virtual
world.
Reportedly, various well-known companies and even
the government have also graced this latest technology by
investing billions of rupiah to design the construction of the
world's first virtual metropolis.
This technology allows humans to interact, make
buying and selling transactions, watching entertainment
shows and carrying out many other activities using an
avatar in the network.
In this regard, the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates,
predicts that in the next 3 years, office meetings will also be
held in the Metaverse, as reported by Fortune, Sunday
(12/12/2021).
Gates conveys this through a collection of annual
reflections and predictions in his Year in Review. "In the
next two or three years, I predict most virtual meetings will
move from 2D camera image grids to the Metaverse, 3D
spaces with digital avatars," Gates wrote.
Gates believes that, rather than meeting face-to-face
in an office, meetings use avatars for interaction and are
equipped with motion capture technology and spatial audio
to make the Metaverse feel like real life.
Spatial audio is the latest technology which is still
under development which is enhanced by virtual 3D
communication.
Users can hear other people's speech as if it came
from the direction of the person speaking directly.
Gates' prediction comes after Google and Meta
(Facebook) re-enact work from the office in 2022 due to the
emergence of the Omicron variant, which cannot be
predicted when it will end.
In addition, Spotify announced a permanent work
from anywhere program last February. Similar to Spotify,
other companies such as Upwork and Pinterest have also
closed their offices permanently and are still doing remote
work first. Not wanting to be left behind, Microsoft last
November also announced the launch of Mesh, a platform
for collaborating in 3D space using avatars.
Furthermore, Gates said, the pandemic has changed
the way companies think and be productive, although there
is still a possibility that most companies will use a hybrid
approach, online and offline.
