Scotland and Ukraine were
meant to meet last month, but
FIFA delayed the match until
June due to Russia’s invasion
of Ukraine.
As such, Wales - who beat
Austria 2-1 in their play-off
semi - are yet to find out which
team they will face for a place
at the Qatar World Cup in No-
vember.
Wales, Scotland and
Ukraine all know which group
they will be in should they
progress, however, with the
winner of the play-off path
having been drawn alongside
England, Iran and the United
States in Group B.
But with no sign of the
conflict in Ukraine ceas-
ing, Stepanenko, who has
played 69 times for his coun-
try, has called on FIFA to de-
lay the match with Scotland

Times: “We don’t want to be
known as victims here. We are
strong and capable guys, eve-
ryone is fine, and we can play
100 per cent.
“But the question I would
ask is how can we play such
an important game when

football player knows that if
you recover from an injury for
a long time, no matter how
much you work out in the gym
and do running, you go out to
play football and everything is
different.
“The level and strength
may not be enough with one
match, but we will be asked
to play two incredibly tough
matches in maybe four days to
get to the World Cup. If there is
no option, then we must play.
“But I think it would be ex-
tremely difficult to achieve two
positive results. We are hoping
FIFA and UEFA recognise this
and postpone the matches to
give us more time to prepare.”

THE Golden State Warri-
ors have been coy about how
much they’ve been watch-
ing the Western Conference
standings. Some have admit-
ted to monitoring them. Oth-
ers have said they’re an after-
thought.
But, heading into Satur-
day’s game against the Utah
Jazz, there was not one per-
son in Golden State’s locker
room who wasn’t aware of the
game’s implications.
A win would allow the
Warriors to sit in third place
with a one-game advantage
over the Dallas Mavericks. It
would also give them the tie-
breaker against the Jazz, en-
suring they’d have a top-five
spot in the West if the two had
the same record at the end of
the regular season.
“Oh yeah, [we were] well
aware,” Warriors coach Steve
Kerr said. “We didn’t talk
about it a whole lot as a team,
but the guys know. ... I told

UCI regulations require
riders to have had testosterone
levels below five nanomoles
per litre for a 12-month period

regulations state that the UCI
must establish conditions that
“protect health and safety” and
“guarantee fair and meaning-
ful competition that displays
and rewards the fundamen-
tal values and meaning of the
sport”.

SOUTH Africa are seven wick-
ets away from winning their
first Test in Durban since
2013 and going 1-0 up in the
two-match series against
Bangladesh.
After South Africa asked
Bangladesh to complete their
highest successful Test chase,
and fourth-highest at King-
smead, the new-ball bowlers,
both spinners, plucked out
three of the top four in just six
overs to leave the visitors fac-
ing an improbable final-day
task.
It was the first time that
South Africa used spin to
open the bowling in a home
Test and they made incisions
at both ends. Simon Harmer
had Shadman Islam caught at
slip off his second ball, while
Keshav Maharaj bowled Mah-
mudul Hasan Joy and had
Mominul Haque out lbw to
pick two wickets in his first
three overs.
Along the way, Maharaj
entered the top ten among
South Africa’s leading wicket-
takers in Test cricket, and dis-
placed Paul Adams to become
their most prolific Test spin-
ner since readmission.
Bangladesh’s top-order
collapse undid a fine display in
the field that saw them dismiss
South Africa for 204, forcing
two collapses along the way.
They took four wickets for 32
runs in a strangling afternoon
session, in which South Africa
