Monday, January 16

Plants have different parts. One part of the plant is the leaf. Leaves are important to plants
because they help the plants to make food which helps them to grow. Leaves have different
colours, shapes and sizes.  Some leaves have more than one colour. Crotons are multi-colored
and look different. Banana leaves are very large but Lime tree leaves are very small; Aloe Vera
leaves are thick while Pepper leaves are thin.

The letter /Gg/ is the 7th letter in the alphabet it is found between the letter ‘f’ and ‘h’.

Tuesday, January 17

Some leaves may be eaten by people and animals. These leaves are called edible leaves. Some
leaves eaten by people are callaloo, lettuce, pak choi, spinach etc. These leaves are very
nutritious and should be eaten as often as possible. However, before we eat them we should
wash the leaves properly in salt water to get rid of worms and other organisms. Leaves can be
eaten cooked/ uncooked. People sometimes juice or blend the leaves to make a drink.

Numeral 5 comes after 4. We have 5 fingers on one hand. We can count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Numeral 5 is written ‘stroke down, curve around, then put on its cap’. 5 is one more than
4.

Wednesday, January 18

Some leaves are used by people for medicinal purposes. Some medicinal leaves are: cerrassi,
aloe Vera, tuna, sour sop, fever grass, leaf of life etc. Tuna and aloe Vera can be used to cleanse
the body, fever grass is good for fever and leaf of life for cold.
When animals are sick they can be seen searching for special leaves which they eat and get
better.

We should decide to eat healthy. Eating dark leafy vegetables such as callaloo, lettuce,
cabbage, pak  choi and others help the body to be healthy.

Thursday, January 19

Some plants are poisonous. No leaves should be taken from poisonous plants as they can make
us sick or even cause us to die. A poisonous plant is harmful to humans and animals. These
plants include dumb cane, periwinkle, poison ivy and oleander. When you see these plants you
are not to touch, play with or eat these plants.

 Folksong: Elena
