Chapter 10:

1) Why was Mrs Medlock surprised that Colin wanted to go into the gardens?
Because Colin always said the fresh air would give him a cold and kill him.

2) Why did Ben Weathertaff cry when he saw Colin?

Because he saw with his own eyes that Colin managed to stand up, to get up from his
chair, despite looking pale and thin. Proving that he didn't was a hunchback.

3) Why had Ben come into the garden secretly before?

Because Colin's mother, before she died, had charged Ben with looking after the secret
garden. So, he went every day to do a little work in the garden.

Chapter 11:

Because Colin wanted to be prepared enough to surprise him and let him know that he
could already walk, being strong like any other boy.

2) Why did Dickon’s mother give the children milk and bread?
Because Mary and Colin being in the secret garden longer, they did more work and were
always hungrier. But to keep the secret, Colin had to keep faking his illness and the
servants would not believe that he was better. Unable to bear the hunger, Dickon's mother
offered to bring them food.

Chapter 12:
1) What were the two reasons why Mr Craven decided to come back to
Misselthwaite Manor?

 He had a dream about his dead wife, indicating that she was in the secret garden.
 He read a letter from Yorkshire, where Martha's mother told him to return home
because she had to talk to him, indicating that he would be happy to be back

2) Why did Mr Craven think that he was dreaming when he stood outside the
secret garden?

Because Mr. Craven hadn't visited the garden in so many years, he thought
everything would be dead. And it seemed like a dream to him that the flower beds
were full of autumn blossoms and the fountain was working.
