Groups during the workshop.

By following this schedule below the same people won’t work together more than one day. I
chose to do like this to combine as many di erent people as possible and generate as much
diversity as possible.

Day 3 Participant 1, 5, 9 Participant 2, 6, 7 Participant 3, 4, 8

Summary (Memo)
This workshop is made for the implementation of Additive Manufacturing for space-engineering
products and details. The workshop focuses on the idea generation and how no ideas during the
workshop is lost, since you don’t know when the right idea will appear. By exploring and take
good care of generated ideas combined with the right evaluation is the main stone to a good
solution, this will this workshop provide.

During this workshop you will do a lot of idea generation and often close the generation to look
back at what has been done and what the main problem is to further develop the solution.

The workshop will be completed in a span of three days which is set with the di erent goals for
each day. The rst day have the main focus on idea-generation and integrating with the problem.
During the second day the participant will focus more on concepts and quick mockups to
visualize the ideas. And the third and last day the focus is set on solutions, combinations of ideas
and a nal concept to present for potential investors and companies.

Day 1
The rst day should have main focus on idea-generation.

8.30
Welcome everyone and give them what they will need for the workshop.

Method ”Dotwistmywords" (Method card 2021)

9.30
Everyone present who they are, after the method to break the ice as soon as possible.

Present the problem together with a professional in AM from the company Ultimaker and discuss
what each company want to get out of the workshop to get everyone on the same page.

Divide the groups from the ”Group Schedule”

10.45
Do a quick method ”Brainstorm” individually to get the rst ideas out of the system.

Present ideas in groups of three. Continue with method ”Brain-drawing” individually.

11.45
Have a nice lunch at a restaurant to change environment a bit. This should get the participants to
know each other a bit better.

12.45/13.00
Evaluate your sketches, pick the best and present to group.

Method ”Cluster matrix” in groups, do the matrix 5 times.

Method ”Concept scoring” to decide which concept to proceed with to the next step.

14.15

Play a game. ”Solutionary” (CreativeCards, 2019-04-15)

14.30

Present the concept your group came up with and discuss pros and cons that each concept
have.

15.30

Round of the day with ”I wish… and I like…”.

Go out for a dinner since everyone comes from di erent places and probably stays at hotels.

Day 2
The second day should have focus on idea-generation but also concepts and quick mockups.

8.30

Have a nice morning co ee while you talk about what you did the rst day.

Divide the teams in to new groups from the "Group Schedule".

8.45/50

Do the method ”Is this a superhero?” (My own creative card). This lets the participants ”wake up”
and give them energy for the upcoming day.

9.10

Present the same problem in another way to get a new set of eyes on the problem.

Do a method ”sandboxplay” with the following topics: Mr. Bean, Astronaut, manufacturer,
economist and engineer in this particular order, about 10 minutes for each topic.

10.00

Fika break

10.20

Do the evaluation method ”The innovation tunnel”.

Let the evaluation give three results from each group.

Present these concepts to the other participants.

11.50

Lunch

13.00

The other groups vote on the other groups ideas with the method ”the hundred dollar test” based
on the problem.

By this time every group have one idea which they should make a paper and play-doh mockup
out of. Rotate the ideas one step through the groups.

The groups now combine the idea they were given with the earlier ideas that they have came up
with.

≈15.00

Have a short ka and play a game. ”Musical Chairs”

15.30

Round of this day by making a method ”four elds SWOT” (concept evaluation).

Discuss through the groups if these concepts are doable and how they must change to implement
these in real life.

16.15
Finish the workshop with a ”I like… and I wish…”.

Day 3
This day should focus on solutions and a nal concept.

8.00

Start the day by having a nice breakfast together, don’t talk about the project during this.

Divide in to group from the ”Group Schedule”, give each group a ” nal concept” from the day
before

8.30/45

Divide in to the last groups, by this time no-one should have worked with the other more than
once.

Focus on the strengths of the last moment from the day before (Day 2) and adapt these to each
other and improve the groups given concept.

10.30

Have a long ka and rest your mind.

During this break, 7 outside professionals looks through the concepts and decide which is the
best by using method ”Dot voting” the professionals come from the companies ESA and
Ultimaker (3 from Ultimaker and 4 from ESA).

11.00

Each group develop the given concept on their own in 8 mins, then they present very short (about
2 min each) to the rest of the participants just to keep the other in the loop of what everyone is
doing. Repeat this 3 times.

1st time: Speedstorming

2nd time: Paper mockup

3rd time: 3 6 5 Method

12.00
Lunch

14.00
Do the nal adjustments to see how you can implement this in real life, this is done with all 9
participants.

Also do short calculations to see what the project will need in the future.

15.10

Short break.

15.20

Make a presentation of the solution to present for investors and the companies that hired this
workshop. This should be strictly professional.

16.30

Go through the workshops best results to make sure no ideas will be lost.

Make the participants ll out ab evaluation form to improve for upcoming workshops.

Thank everyone for participating.

Workshop, Additive
Manufacturing
implementation to
space engineering
The manufacturing of space-products has not yet
come to the stage where it’s possible to use Additive
Manufacturing, also known as 3d-printing.
Therefore we hereby invite you to the three-day
workshop where you will work in a team of 9
engineers to make this possible!

During the workshop you will be guided through

the problems in the question with help from ESAs
and Ultimakers specialists.

The location of the workshop is the European

Space Agencys (ESA) headquarter in Paris, France.
24 Rue du Général Bertrand CS 30798, 75007
Paris, France.

The workshop will take place the first Monday to

Wednesday in April 2022, 4th until 6th. During this
time you will work in teams to come up with a
concept that you will bring back to your company
for further development and implementation to
your companys manufacturing operation.
