In the past, Disney has licensed
its world-famous characters to
other publishers; Dell, Gold Key,
Gladstone, et. But now, as
some of our advertising has been
saying, the gang has finally come
home to roost. From this month
forward, Mickey, Donald, and all
your other favorites will be
published under the auspices of
The Walt Disney Company itself.
All of us here at Disney Comics
(myself; our editors, Bob
David Seidman, and David Cody
Weiss; our peerless one-woman
production department,
Palomino; our Publisher, Randy
Achee; and all the others who
make what we do here from
month to month possible) are
bound and determined to
produce the BEST darn Disney
Comics you've ever read. We'll
be introducing new talents and
new directions, while retaining all
the warmth and wonder that has
made Disney a household word
the world over.
This will be our forum to speak
to you each month about all the
news and surprises we have in
store for you. Your comments on
our eight ongoing monthly titles
will be dealt with in each book's
letter column. All in all, we hope
to begin an exciting exchange of
observations and ideas. As has
been said so many times before,
you are the real editors of these
titles and your opinions matter to
us.
So pull up a chair, get nice and
comfortable, and brace yourselt for
a journey into new adventures with
some old and trusted friends. It
promises to be a most exciting trip.

Who's the greatest hero of all
time? Who throughout history has
outwitted the villains, braved the el-
ements, won the battles? Who in
classics of literature has inspired
awe for his strength, his intellect, his
nobility of purpose?
Could it be --
You're darn right it could!
For the first time in far too
many years, the world's most lov-
able clown has a comic of his own in
America. Goofy Adventures is a
wacky romp through history and lit-
erature with Disney's silliest
superstar. Whether he's Sherlock
Goofy solving mysteries or Attila the
Goof rampaging through Asia, Wyatt
Goof facing down desperados or
Goofeo (of Goofeo and Juliet) en-
gaging in tender romance, our hero
is at center stage, grappling with the
greatest challenges of all time--and
making a mess of them.
Guiding Goofy through these
parodies of history's heroes are
some of the most talented creators
in comics. Unlike other comics,
Goofy Adventures has no single
team creating all of its stories, so you
never know who might appear in
these pages.
This issue's contributors in-
clude Mike Kazaleh, who wrote
“Balboa de Goofy.” He's created his
own comic, Captain Jack, plus sto-
пез for Critters, Anything Goes,
Doomsday Patrol, and the Roger
Rabbit graphic novel, The Resurrec-
tion of Doom. Mike has also done
animation for such television series
as Tiny Toons, The Simpsons, and
Mighty Mouse, and various pro-
ductions for his own studio.
"Balboa de Goofy"--and our
cover--were drawn by the talented
Rick Hoover. Rick's been a staff
artist at Hanna-Barbera and Filma-
tion, assistant art director for
Western Publishing, and the artist on
Disney's Gummi Bears comic strip
and future Goofy Adventures stories.
The man who colored "Balboa
de Goofy," Tom Luth, has drawn and
designed for a wide array of clients.
As acomics colorist, he's done Groo
the Wanderer, Hawkmoon, and Usa-
gi Yojimbo.
"Goofy Frankenstein," our
backup story, was written by Greg
Crosby. Greg's been at Disney for
20 years, starting out animating on
the movie Bedknobs and Broom-
sticks, then moving to storyboarding.
Later, Greg joined the staff of Char-
acter Merchandising, which oversaw
all Disney products. Today, Greg is
Vice President in charge of Creative
Services Publications, which super-
vises Disney publications.
The artists on "Goofy Franken-
stein" are Hector de Urtiaga and
Nestor Torreiro of the Jaime Diaz
Studios. Jaime Diaz began working
with Disney art in 1975, and Hector
and Nestor have drawing Disney
comics for him ever since. You can
find more Jaime Diaz Studio work in
the Disney Comics DuckTales, Chip
"М Dale Rescue Rangers, and future
issues of Goofy Adventures.
"Goofy Frankenstein's" colorist
is Janice Cohen, who has colored for
all of the major comics companies.
Among her favorite assignments are
the Spider-Man comic strip, The
Incredible Hulk, Warp and Goofy
Adventures.
