Cloud Computer Research
Questions:
1. What are Cloud Service Providers?
a. Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) are companies that provide a range of cloud computing
services, including infrastructure, platform, and software as a service, to customers over
the internet. Examples include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Google
Cloud Platform (GCP), IBM Cloud and Oracle Cloud.
2. What is Platform as a Service (PaaS)?
a. Platform as a Service (PaaS) is a cloud computing model that provides a platform to
develop, run, and manage applications without the complexity of building and
maintaining the infrastructure typically associated with developing and launching an
application. Popular examples of PaaS include QuickBase, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, and
Boomi.
3. What are two (2) benefits of cloud computing?
a. There are many benefits of cloud computing, but two of the most significant ones are:
i. Scalability: Cloud computing provides businesses with the ability to easily and
quickly scale their IT resources up or down to meet changing demand. This
means that businesses can avoid the need to invest in expensive hardware and
infrastructure that may not be fully utilized, and instead only pay for the
resources they use.
ii. Cost savings: Cloud computing can also offer significant cost savings compared
to traditional on-premises IT infrastructure. With cloud computing, businesses
can avoid the need to invest in expensive hardware, maintenance, and upgrades,
and instead pay for computing resources on a pay-as-you-go basis.
4. What is one (1) disadvantage of using cloud computing?
a. One disadvantage of using cloud computing is the potential for security and privacy risks.
Cloud computing involves storing sensitive data and applications on remote servers
owned and managed by third-party cloud service providers. While these providers have
security measures in place to protect their customers' data, there is always a risk of data
breaches, hacking, and other cyber threats.
