I would like to start by saying that I am happy for the great opportunity given to me by your prestigious
institution to show them the reasons that encouraged me to apply for this program and my future. My names are
Chimodo Emmanuel Chinedu from Nigeria. During my undergraduate studies at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, I
focused on studying politics and the progression of events around the globe as a student of "History and International
Studies" major. Likewise, my enrolment into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) made me to become involved and
very zealous to learn how events of the past have overtime chronologically to the current events that are ongoing whether
positive like economic development, political or social growth or negative occurrence like terrorism, ethnic conflict or
war, economic corruption and so on.
Also, in my understanding of what peace and conflict entails, it has to deal with the effort to make the practice
of peace a plausible behaviour amongst warring states and not just focusing on literally having or conducting peace talks
or making peace treaties to stop conflict or war. The practice of Peace is much more important compared to just stopping
conflict because if not practised, a halted conflict can arise again. Similarly, below is an outline of my personal,
professional and academic experience in terms of peace and conflict; In Nigeria, I actively took part in protests and
demonstrations that are aimed at pushing the government to make positive moves towards controlling the activities of the
terrorist group in Nigeria called "Boko Haram". Secondly, although being actively involved physically, I also used the
internet to get people in the outside world to learn and educate them on the ongoing events in my country in regards to
insecurity to attain international support to see if that could encourage the government to do something.

Why Would I like to Study Peace and Conflict in Japan? And Why Tokyo University of Foreign Studies

Judging by my in-depth personal experience with peace and conflict in my country Nigeria, I am highly
motivated to study about peace and conflict because of the series of events that I have seen going on in my country and
with the number of deaths and attacks on human lives and properties. Also, I would like to study the history of issues
relating to peace and conflict in other countries and how they have been able to manage it and Japan would be a perfect
case study. Furthermore, I chose to study at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUSF) because of the opportunities
that I will gain learning about peace and conflict by first gaining admission at TUFS.
Similarly, the syllabus and the well-equipped research facilities that TUFS has under its possessions would be
highly valuable in studying peace and conflict. Finally, being in Tokyo as a student would give me more chances to
engage in other activities like internships and so on; hence boosting my educational life in Japan.

How I Intend to Use What I Have Learnt at TUFS in the Future Both Personally and Professionally

I intend to use the academic knowledge that I will gain at the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies to assist in
controlling the issues related to terrorism, insecurity and constant ethnic conflict in my country, Nigeria. Therefore,
studying at TUFS would impact me with all the necessary knowledge and tools that I need to make changes in terms of
providing ways to curb the major causes of insecurity and dispute in my country like poverty, youth unemployment,
corruption and lots more. Finally, attaining a degree from the TUFS would assist me towards creating and engaging in
resolution talks between conflicting tribes to arrive at a point of compromise and embrace the practice of peace and my
