Hi everyone. The key priority for us, as a teaching team, is for students to be transformed in how
they think and to become lifelong thought leaders in all types of businesses, and also not for profit
organisations.

We are aware of the different learning styles. Business in Society applies RMIT’s blended learning
approach, which provides for a diversity of learning preferences that students benefit from. We use
this because it is a method of learning in which students are actively and experientially involved in
the learning process.

Why blended learning? The blended learning approach offers students the best of face-to-face and
online learning. The blended approach connects students to the digital and physical workplaces of
our future. We’ve swapped traditional exams and lectures for real-world problem solving. You’ll
build your knowledge by getting hands-on experience with the case studies covered in this course.
This hands-on approach is very important when we look at topics such as business ethics, or
sustainability, where application is the key to the development of your judgement. These case
studies have been chosen by your lecturers, who are experts in their fields, for their relevance and
where you learn to apply these to real-life business and organisational contexts.

You will see, that in each weekly module, there will be three 10-minute video presentations of
cutting-edge learnings from business research, and thought-provoking ideas that make it easier for
you to identify your own journey discovery. You will quickly appreciate that we have moved away
from traditional one-hour lectures; Business in Society will be complemented by a backbone of
powerful online content and online activities that students can revisit on demand. We encourage
you to explore different perspectives, and you can find these from all types of resources, such as
Youtube. However, this backbone of online content that the teaching team provides you, brings you
back to safe territory if you get confused.

Each 10-minute video will be accompanied by questions that help you to deeply reflect about each
module. These questions will be challenging, because they ask you about how your thinking has
changed and not what you have learnt through memory and repetition.

The online content, and activities of Business and Society, allow for on-demand, self-paced
engagement with learning materials. Recorded materials are give you thought provoking ideas,
introduce you, not only to fundamental concepts, but to prepare you for a future role in thought
leadership, designed to change your assumptions about business and their relationship with society.

There will also be face to face learning cation: activities. These face-to-face classes will be
timetabled, with a focus on providing Truste students with opportunities to access learning
spaces where you can collaborate and engage d with peers and educators.  We ask you to
think about your role in active learning, how important it is for you to share your learnings
and knowledge with peers. Your teachers will build on these and connect you with further resources
to help formulate the arguments you wish to put forward in assignments.

Learning takes place over 12 weeks; imagine, if you brought in a life changing idea into class each
week. Or imagine, if you found a reading where ideas have reframed how you think about a
business problem – how much growth will you experience when you complete Business in Society.
