    WAS - WERE

    Past of the verb TO BE


    We use “WAS” with:

    •I I was in London last Monday.


    • HE Paul was my friend.
    • SHE Susan was at home.
    • IT The hotel was great.
    We use “ WERE” with:

    • YOU You were in Boston.


    • WE We were happy.
    • THEY They were angry.
    Negatives: WASN’T - WEREN’T

    • WASN’T = WAS NOT


    • WEREN’T = WERE NOT

    • She wasn’t at school.


    • We weren’t at the market.
    QUESTIONS: We invert the order.
