The Magician’s Gift

Once, some bees gave a magician some honey. The

magician was happy.

“Ask me for anything under the sun,” he said.

“Really ? ” said the bees.

“Yes,” said the magician.

“Please give us stings,” said the bees.

“ What do you want stings for ?” asked the magician.

The bees said, “We want to sting and kill those who
steal our honey.”

“Kill ? That is very bad,” said the kind magician.

“We hate people who steal our honey,” said the bees.

“Well, you will get your stings,” said the magician. The
bees were very happy.

The magician continued to say, “You shall die when

you use your stings and not the man you sting !”

The Hen and Her Six Little Chicks

Once, there lived a hen named Henny and her six

little chicks. One day, she found some grains of wheat and
asked, “who will help me plant this wheat ?”

“Not I,” said the duck.

“Not I,” said the bird.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the dog.

“ Then my six little chicks and I will,” said Henny.

After some time, the plant grew healthily and had long
stalks of wheat. The wheat ripened and was ready to be
harvested. “Who will help me harvest the wheat grain?”
asked Henny.

“Not I,” said the duck.

“Not I,” said the bird.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the dog.

So Henny and her six little chicks harvested the wheat

grain. After that, they took the grain to the miller to grind.
They then brought home the fine white flour. “Who will
help me bake a cake?” asked Henny.

“Not I,” said the duck.

“Not I,” said the bird.

“Not I,” said the cat.

“Not I,” said the dog.

So Henny and her six little chicks baked the wheat

grain. When the cake was ready, Henny asked, “Who will
help me to eat this cake?”

“ I will,”said the duck, the bird, the cat and the dog.

“Oh no, you won’t,” said Henny.

“My six little chicks and I have done all the work. So
we will eat the cake.”
