Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of Accounting Software on the Business
Performance of the Selected Retail Stores in Malabon City. Specifically, the researchers
sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondent in terms of:

1.1 Name (Respondent)
1.2 Gender
1.3 Years of service in current firm
1.4 Job Position
1.5 Company Profile
1.5.1 Location
1.5.2 Firm used computerized system (Yes or No)
1.5.3 Legal Status of the current firm (Public or Private)
1.5.4 Accounting Software used
1.5.5 Years/months of using Accounting Software
2. Does utilizing accounting software enhanced the effectiveness of the firm in terms of:
2.1 Accuracy
2.2 Data quality
2.3 Efficiency
2.4 Reliability
2.5 Ease of Use

3. Is there a significant relationship between the effectiveness of Accounting Software on

the Business Performance of Retail Stores?

Theoretical Framework

The Information Processing (IP) Theory proposed by Rogers, Miller, and Judge (1999)
focuses on how humans see their surroundings, store that information in their memories,
and then recall that knowledge. The Information Processing Theory method is predicated
on humans’ processing of information rather than merely reacting to external stimuli. The
mind is frequently equated to a computer in the Information Processing Theory
framework. The computer evaluates data and decides how it will be stored, just like the
mind. There are three components of the Information Processing Theory (Atkinson and
Shiffrin Model)
The multi-store model was proposed by John William Atkinson and Richard Shiffrin in
1968 to show their theory on human memory (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1977). The three
divisions of human memory are depicted in the model, along with how they interact.

- Sensory memory is everything you experience using your five senses—hearing,

seeing, tasting, smelling, and touching. The duration and capacity of sensory
memory are both restricted to 0.5 to 3 seconds and around four things,
respectively.

- Short-term memory (STM), also known as working memory, is a temporary storage

system that maintains roughly seven pieces of information for 15 to 30 seconds
and is responsible for applying what is stored in sensory memory.

- Long-term memory (LTM) is a type of memory that can store an endless amount
of data and be accessed later.

Current Areas of Research

The study of computer or artificial intelligence today makes use of information processing
theory. Families and corporate entities are just two examples of systems outside of the
individual to which this theory has been applied. Rogers, Miller, and Judge (1999) used
information processing theory to explain business organizational behavior and propose a
model detailing how successful and unsuccessful company strategies are created. Their
study identifies the elements of organizations that "sense" market information as well as
how organizations pay attention to this information, which gatekeepers determine what
information is relevant or important for the organization, how this is organized into the
existing culture, and whether the organization has effective or ineffective processes for
their long-term strategy.

Cognitive psychology and the desire of scientists and specialists to comprehend how the
human mind functions led to the development of information processing theory. Artificial
intelligence (AI) research aims to comprehend human cognition and simulate various
cognitive processes in machines, including learning, information retrieval, memory
encoding, natural language processing, and more (Langley, 2016).

Using the “Input” process, the researchers will collect the respondent’s profile such
as name, gender, years of service in the firm, and job position. Next is the collection of
the company’s profile such as location, the firm used computerized system, the legal
status of the firm, accounting software used, and years/months of using accounting
software. Lastly, to determine the relationship between the characteristics of accounting
software on the business performance of retail stores in Malabon City such as its
accuracy, data quality, efficiency, reliability, and ease of use.
In the “Process” stage, the researchers will gather data through assessment. After
gathering the data, the researchers will analyze and interpret the data of the answers of
the respondents.
In the “Output” stage, the researchers will determine the profile of respondents,
retail stores that use accounting software for business performance, and the effectiveness
of accounting software on the business performance of retail stores.
