Toni Morrison

Her real name is Chloe Ardella Wofford Morrison, but she is better
known as Toni Morrison. She was born on the 18th February 1931 in
Lorain, Ohio. She was graduated from Howard University. She is an
American novelist, essayist, literary critic, playwright, librettist,
professor of literature and publisher. She won the price Pulitzer in
1988 and de Nobel price of literature in 1993. She is the eighty
woman and the second African American author who received this
distinction.
Her grandparents ran away the Alabama because there was a lot of
racism. She went in Lorain in the Ohio. She didn’t experience racism
until she left Lorain. And she said this phrase: I didn't really have a
strong awareness of segregation and the separation of races until I left
Lorain.
She is getting married in 1958, with Howard Morrison. And they have
two children. But they are getting divorced in 1964.
After her divorce, she lives in New York. And she wrote a lot of
Novel: The Bluest Eye, Sula, Song of Solomon and a lot of other.
During she wrote The Bluest Eye, she gets up every morning at 4am
to write, while she raises her two children alone. This book sells
poorly at first, but it will soon sell more and more.
She wrote one Theatre piece: The Dreaming Emmett. It’s about
Emmett Till, a 14-year-old black teenager who was tortured to death
by white men. This piece is played in 1986 in the University of New
York.
She fights for the rights of blacks and women. She was not afraid to
comment the American politics and race relation. She has always
supported Barack Obama, who awarded her the Presidential Medal of
Freedom on 29 May 2012.
She wrote the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in
Montgomery, Alabama.
In Lorain there is a day, who call Toni Morrison Day. That’s all 18 th
February, her birthday.

She died on the 5th August 2019 in the Montefiore Medical Center in
the big apple (New York). She dies of pneumonia and she was 88
years old.
