Mustangs’ season ends in district tournament

The Huntingdon Mustangs
saw their 2022 baseball season
came to end at Mustangs Field
last week during the District 12-
AA baseball tournament with a
17-3 loss to Westview.
The Mustangs, who have
struggled offensively all season,
continued that trend on Monday
night, May 9, in the loss to West-
view. The Mustangs managed
only five hits in the game and
fell behind 11-0 in the first three
innings before putting together a
mini rally as they scored three in
the top of the fourth to close the
gap a little. But Westview scored
six times in the fourth to secure
the win.
Senior Hunter Britt, who
earned All-District honors for the
season and for the tournament,
led the way for the Mustangs as
he had a pair of ringing doubles
and drove in a run. Easton Byars
was 1-2 and scored a run while

McKenzie overcame a 2-1

and two more in the sixth and
defeated host Houston County
4-2 to win the District 11A
softball championship on May
11. 
McKenzie hosted West Car-
roll on Monday, May 16, while
Houston County ventured to
Hollow Rock-Bruceton Cen-
tral for their first-round Region
6A tournament games. Results
from those games were not
available at press time.
McKenzie leadoff hitter Sa-
vannah Davis had a big day
against Houston County, go-
ing 3-4 with a triple and an
RBI. Jaden Barton and Kassidy
Brown each singled and drove
in a run. Briley Auvenshine
and Anna Robinson each sin-
gled for the Lady Rebels.  Lady Irish.

with a 2-4 effort that included a
home run and three RBI’s. Blane
Fields took the loss for the Mus-
tangs on the mound, and Luke
Beam was the winning pitcher
for the Chargers.
The loss eliminated the Mus-
tangs, and following the game
with Westview, Milan defeated
Gibson County 12-5 to send the
Pioneers to the loser’s bracket.
Westview then defeated Union
City in a loser’s bracket game
10-0 and followed that up with
a 10-0 win over Gibson County
