The opioid crisis is a major public health problem in the United States.

On
average, 130 Americans die every day from opioid-related overdoses, which have
become the leading cause of preventable death before the age of 50, far ahead of
motor vehicle accidents and firearm deaths. Since 2000, opioid use, in its various
forms (legally prescribed, diverted, or purchased on the black market), has caused
more than 300,000 overdose deaths: an unprecedented health crisis. The current
epidemic is characterized above all by the rapid increase in opioid overdose deaths,
which are reaching new records every year. After discovering the set of documents,
we can ask ourselves, what are the reasons for the Opioid crisis ? First, we will
present the socio-demographics reasons, then we will explain the economic reasons
and last but not least, we will enlighten the fact that this crisis was deeply rooted by
pharmaceutical companies.
