Abstract

The need for vehicles in India is huge as penetration is still very low. India has 1.2 billion
people and if you look at two-wheeler sales in India it is almost two million per year. This
means that almost 2 percent of the Indian population buys two-wheelers every year, and the
overall percentage of car buyers is even lower. Given that the life of a vehicle ranges from three
years to 10 years, the scope for growth in India is huge. While the growth of the industry is
linked to the overall growth of the economy, the automobile industry in India will grow. There
is huge scope for many new ideas to come in and help the industry grow from the level it has
reached today. There was a time when India was purely a scooter-driven market, while
motorcycles sold more globally, and everyone was surprised by the unique dynamics of the
market.

The segment we operate in – ATVs – is still very much in its infancy. We started our activities
in India in August 2011. We are the only brand present in India with the aim of launching
ATVs and as the world's number one market, we are committed to developing this market. We
have seen that the interest in the product category is huge and there is huge potential for growth
in the ATV segment. Today we have a network in all major cities and interest is very high
everywhere. At the moment, this category is still a small part of the overall industry, but moving
forward, it will turn into a large segment of the industry. We are very happy with the growth
so far and we are sure that the growth will be even higher in the future. And as more global
players join us in the Indian industry, we will be able to grow the segment at a much faster
pace.

As a manufacturing base, India already has all major car and two-wheeler manufacturers. It is
already much improved, and factors such as the development of the automotive component
industry have contributed to improving the overall quality. These are all positive signs and in
this sense the government's pro-Indian manufacturing policy has helped the industry to grow.
This generates so much additional income and creates opportunities for the Indian population.
India today is very competitive in the manufacturing industry in terms of operating costs.

The future of the two-wheeler industry in India gives critical information about Two-Wheeler
Industry. ACG expect that over next coming year the three-tier structure of the industry which
was 20 percent for the entry-level segment, 60 percent in value for the mid-level and 20 percent
at a premium level for the time and the current trend has moved to 30-50-20 percent and it is
on its way to moving to 35-40-25 percent structure. This means the middle-level market is
getting squeezed out, which in turn is very good for companies like, Yamaha, Bajaj, Suzuki.
Hero MotoCorp and Honda need to introduce new innovative product range in this segment
since these companies are the major player of value plus segment.

Two-wheelers constitute a considerable part of the Indian motorehicle ecosystem and are an
integral mode of transportation in some regions. Though two-wheelers have been around since
the early 20th century, it is only a decade old that they have started to make their way into the
daily lives of millions of Indians.

The number and types of two-wheelers available in India have expanded to include scooters,
motorcycles, mopeds, and motorcycles that are mostly fuel-driven. On the other hand, there is
a relatively small but fast-growing segment of electric two-wheelers, also known as e-two-
wheelers1 .

Electric two-wheelers are popular in many Chinese cities, in many cases driven by outright
bans on their fossil-fuelled equivalents. Murcia (Spain) installed public charging stations for
electric two-wheelers to encourage the deployment of electric motorcycles and electric bikes.
As part of the CIVITAS Initiative, Rome (Italy) introduced about 400 electric scooters and
suitable recharging infrastructure. In addition, Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Barcelona (Spain)
installed charging infrastructure for electric scooters and bicycles—and the latter launched the
first electric scooter-sharing project in 2013. Naples (Italy) promoted electric two-wheelers by
cooperating with manufacturers to offer discounts for electric scooters and pedelecs 2. To help
replace fossil-fueled two-wheelers (or passenger cars) with electric two-wheelers, cities can
write a plan with appropriate goals based on an examination of the role and implications of
electric two-wheelers in the entire local transport system. Measures in the plan could include
banning nonelectric-PTWs, providing dedicated parking, creating charging areas and separate
lanes for electric two-wheelers, and special waiting areas at intersections for motorcycles, or
excluding electric two-wheelers from city toll.

powered electric bicycle where the rider's pedalling is assisted by a small electric motor.

India's Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy is ambitious an oft-cited problem with the growth
of EVs in India is the poor electrical grid infrastructure and lack of charging stations. Many
energy companies do too as oil companies announced plans to develop charging infrastructure

in Earth. The Indian government plans to make battery replacement a key electric two-wheeler
charging component that handles two at the same time problems — lack of charging points and
long charging time. In August 2020 The Department of Road Transport and Highways has
announced that it will allow sale and registration of EVs without batteries. This is the latest in
the series Indian government policies that signal a preference for battery replacement, and this
has led to the growing list of startups in this space.Vehicle aggressive characteristics toward
VRUs are also an important factor in the risk exposition of these road users. Vehicles’ safety
standards have been greatly improved for car occupants but none or low attention to reducing
the harmful interactions with road users outside the vehicle has been paid. Only recently car
manufacturers began to invest in safety research to protect VRUs, but the research findings are
implemented in high-end vehicles, rarely sold in low- and middle-income countries.
Infrastructure characteristics are also responsible the high fatalities burden supported by
VRUs3.
