Ex Works
EXW + (Named Place on Seller’s side)

Named Place is generally Seller’s Location (or where product is initially shipped from)
• Delivery – Seller delivers the goods when placed at buyer’s disposal in the named place of destination packed but
NOT LOADED on a collecting vehicle
• Seller’s Risks – Minimum obligation for the seller (once packed there is a loss of control over: transportation movement, where
package is finally received, how export or import documentation is presented to relevant governments)
• Delivery - Seller delivers the goods LOADED on a collecting vehicle in the named place of
destination
• Risks: Transferred from the seller to the buyer in the point of delivery
• Carriage - Buyer responsible for pre-carriage (*if delivery in seller’s place), main carriage, on-carriage !
If requested or the buyer does not give instruction in due time, the seller may contract for carriage on usual terms at the
buyer’s risk and expense.
• Insurance: Neither party required to insure goods
• Export Clearance: Handled by the Seller
• Import Clearance: Handled by the Buyer – responsible for the customs formalities and any duties,
fees, other charges due upon importation
Carriage Paid To
CPT + Named Place (on Buyer’s Side)

Named Place is generally where goods arrive by a main mean of transport (but might be
agreed differently)
• Delivery: Seller delivers the goods to a carrier or another person nominated by the seller, in the
agreed place on the Seller's side, appropriately packed, LOADED
• Risks: Seller bears all risks until the goods are delivered to the first carrier on the Seller’s side
• Carriage: Seller pays costs of carriage to bring the goods to the named destination
• Insurance: Neither party required
• Export Clearance: Handled by the Seller
• Import clearance: Handled by the Buyer – responsible for the customs formalities and any duties,
fees, other charges due upon importation
Carriage and Insurance Paid To
CIP + Named Place (on Buyer’s Side)

to the goods during carriage

DAP + Named Place (Buyer’s Side)

• Delivery: Seller delivers the goods to the buyer in the named place on the Buyer’s side, appropriately packed,
NOT UNLOADED
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are delivered to the named place on buyer’s side
• Carriage: Seller handles all carriage to the named place on buyer’s side
• Export Clearance: Handled by the Seller
• Import Clearance: Handled by the Buyer – responsible for the customs formalities and any duties, fees, other
charges due upon importation
• Delivery: Seller delivers goods to the Buyer, cleared for import, but NOT UNLOADED at the final
destination
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are delivered to the named place on the
Buyer’s side
• Carriage: Seller handles all carriage to the named place on Buyer’s side
• Export/Import Clearance: Handled by the Seller – responsible for the customs formalities and any
duties, fees, other charges due upon importation
• Delivery: Seller delivers goods to the Buyer alongside the vessel chosen by the Buyer in the named port
of departure, packed appropriately
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are placed alongside the vessel on Seller’s side
• Carriage:
• Seller handles pre-carriage
• Buyer handles main carriage and on-carriage
• Export Clearance: Handled by the Seller
• Import Clearance: Handled by the Buyer – responsible for the customs formalities and any duties, fees,
other charges due upon importation
• Insurance: Neither party required to insure goods
Free On Board
FOB + Named Place
(port on Seller’s side)

• Delivery: Seller delivers goods to Buyer on board the vessel chosen by the Buyer in the named port of
departure, packed for shipment
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are placed on board the vessel on the Seller’s side
• Carriage:
• Seller handles pre-carriage
• Buyer handles main carriage and on-carriage
• Export Clearance: Handled by the Seller
• Import Clearance: Handled by the Buyer – responsible for the customs formalities and any duties, fees, other
charges due upon importation
• Insurance: Neither party required to insure goods
Cost and Freight
CFR + Named Place (port on Buyer’s side)

• Delivery: Seller delivers goods packed for shipment on board the Seller-designated vessel in the port on Seller’s
side
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are on board the vessel
• Carriage:
• Delivery: Seller delivers goods packed for shipment on board the Seller-designated vessel in the port on
Seller’s side
• Risks: Transferred from the Seller to the Buyer once goods are on board the vessel
• Carriage:
• Seller handles pre-carriage and main carriage
• Buyer handles on-carriage
• Export Clearance: Handled by Seller
• Import clearance: Buyer is responsible for the customs requirements and associated costs (fees, duties, etc.)
• Insurance: Seller required to procure MINIMUM coverage against Buyer’s risk of loss or damage to the
goods during carriage
