THESIS ABSTRACT
TITLE: PEDAGOGICAL CHALLENGES OF THE NEW NORMAL INSTRUCTION
PHENOMENOLOGICAL STUDY
MAE C.
Generally, this study seeks to understand the pedagogical challenges of the new
normal instruction among teachers at Our Lady of Piat High School: A Phenomenological Study
1. What are the new practices and Teaching Phases of the teachers in the new normal
instruction?
Summary of Findings
New Normal Instruction
The abrupt changes made in the educational sector brought about by the worldwide
pandemic ushered in many unintended effects. Notably, among there is the shift of classroom
face-to-face setting to the use of gadgets where pupils are no longer exposed to the traditional
Attendant to this, are challenges that have to be addressed by teachers, pupils, and parents
One of the challenges mentioned is the availability of resources. Online teaching requires
a lot of creativity by the teacher when lesson and other enrichment activities are not found in
books or other reference materials. They have to search to increase understanding of learners.
Preparation of the software also needs careful preparation. More trainings for platform
Many teachers also meet some technological and technical difficulties using online
platform. Internet connectivity is very unreliable. Poor internet connectivity tends to waste time,
money, effort of the teacher and pupils. Unlike face-to-face instruction, pupils attending online
classes may not exhibit sustained interest in listening. Close supervision is hardly exercised so
that parents should be involved in the control of pupils’ behavior. Distraction are inevitable that
Teachers should give priority attention to the different teaching phases. There is no
substitute to a well-prepared lesson plan. It does not only set the pace of an organized
presentation but it also provides a feedback mechanism for proper follow-up. Your plan is
always your reaching point. “It is difficult to run the boat without knowing its destination” so
they say.
New Normal Instruction particularly for online platform has been appreciated by the
teachers, particularly if the problem or challenges are reduced or solved such as internet
connectivity. For one thing, teachers who are willing to do self-study or even provided with
trainings and seminars experienced their professional growth. In the preparation of their
instructional materials they employ their own creativity which highlighted the skills and abilities
of individual teachers.
In any classroom setting, behavior problems are inherent. Since these are common
problems, teachers have learned from their experiences on how to deal with these challenges.
The element of open communication is important for those that are quite difficult to handle,
In cases where teachers are not really prepared and need technical support, mentoring
could be a great support for beginners in the operation of gadgets needed in online lesson
Patience is an important virtue among teachers which benefits both the teacher and the
pupil.
CONCLUSION
The sudden shift of to the so called New Normal Instruction has ushered in many
challenges as a result of the abrupt changes of teaching learning modalities. This observation was
made evident by the responses of the teachers particularly those who commonly made use of
chalkboard and handmade visual teaching materials to help them improve better understanding
during actual face-to-face classes. While many of the respondents expressed appreciation for
these changes as part of their professional growth, a lot of them expresses optimism that their
level of knowledge and skills should made more as an advantage and strength to be apart with
others as new normal instruction now becomes a continuing modality much more in the years to
come. There should be a continuing effort by the school to acquire more hardware and software
materials so that this will facilitate their preparation and presentation for better understanding by
their pupils.
While they have to deal with a lot of technological complexities like poor internet
The researchers conclude that teachers who used new normal instruction experience a lot
of challenges in teaching. Teachers also need to be trained and attend seminars and workshops in
which can help them to be better able to cope with need of their incapacities.
RECOMMENDATION
The following recommendations are made by the researchers based on the conclusion of
the study:
1. The researchers highly recommend to explore more about the lived experiences of
teachers on pedagogical challenges in the new normal instruction. They should dig
and skills on the effective use of online teaching platforms and interactive tools.
3. Teachers should be provided with sufficient both hardware and software materials
4. Future researchers can use these findings to support further and continuing potential
